I don't see it either, at least not that much of a difference.

Any pics of yours?

High end breeders that use 'better' parents, produce offspring that fit the criteria as a better goldfish, end up costing a lot more. It is just like dogs. What is the difference between a lab looking mutt and a pure bred, high-end show winning lab? Not much unless you have developed an expensive taste for what others have told you is better.

I hear ya----

Just dont know what to be looking for-----
Thanks for trying to educate me a bit...

I am not a judge or anything, but a much larger wen and deeper body would increase value.

You might be able to find criteria on judging them with a google search. Just like with dogs, each section of the body has certain criteria it should have.

One problem is that the highly desired deep body causes lots of problems. Many of these high end goldfish are VERY prone to swim bladder and digestive system problems because the internal organs or so compressed. Being bred and kept in super high water quality also makes them less tolerant of anything less. This is why many people do very well with LFS discus, but the ones they get from a breeder tend to go downhill in the exact same tank. The same thing occurs with goldfish.

Reminds me of Aro lovers, very subtle and slight things in body, shape, finage, coloration, that make a HUGE difference.

Very true...

But I have no slack specimen as one can see....

Also not saying I have ne thing special.....

What do you mean by "deep" bodied exactly?

Seems like a logical answer...

Deep body is very round body, the opposite of the long-bodied wild type like pond goldfish. The fancy goldfish are supposed to have a very compressed body from front to back, giving them a very round shape, like a tennis ball. Unfortunately this smashes all the organs together. This is what contributes to swim bladder problems (the duct from the mouth to the swim bladder is not as open as it should be, preventing it from exchanging air properly). It also contributes to digestive system problems for the same reason, squishing it together which prevents it from functioning properly.

Yours has a healthy shape, although not the 'best' shape as far as show criteria would want.

Many, many animals have this type of criteria. Discus, arowanas, goldfish, guppies, dogs, cats, ferrets, rats, mice, guinea pigs, goats, cows, basically anything we have domesticated.
