Explain to me why Pythons shouldn't be banned?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
So are you saying they should make dogs illegal. Many more wondering dogs have killed people then wondering snakes. There is not one reported case of and escaped pet snake killing anyone ouside of the home. Except in the everglades (1 recorded case).

Also they are not stopping with the giant snakes. They are trying to add other species of python such as ball python. Now comapring these snakes to rhinos and lions is just not logical.

GEE if pythons were illegal... well.. IT WOULD SUCK CHANGING 100GALLONS OF WATER A WEEK!!:ROFL::screwy:

The govenrment should have no controll? So you dont mind if your neighbors pet rihno takes a dump in your front yard? And you wouldn't mind if you went to take a dip in your pool and the other neighbors hippo was having a little swim? Or their lion that roars at the wee hours of the morning? I agree that the government shouldnt controll everything, but they have to say when enough is enough. So i must agree that any snake wondering around that can kill my kid, needs to be prevented by any means necessary.

If you read my post thoroughly you would have seen the part where I said,

"as long as I am not creating a nuisance to the general public. And if I did become a nuisance to the general public with one of my behaviors and/or hobbies, I should be dealt with on an individual basis..."

As far as i'm concerned, any of your 3 rediculous scenarios is a case of being a nuisance to the general public.

Man, you actually did a good thing here by giving ppl a chance to get mad enough to take the time and speak the truth here. Maybe thats what you meant to do. Either way, Boa constrictors are on the list, my Boa has brought so much joy to the kids and others in my family and friends or neighbors. Something other than a dog or cat to keep their interest in animals and to not want to kill the first reptile they find in the wild as they grow up. Sure the Boa could bite them or something, just as my dog or two cats I would never let a kid be alone with any of them.

Your comment on the 25 buck balls not seeing 10 years could have some truth to it with some low life uneducated ppl. It wouldn't hurt for ppl to have to have a little written test or something before they purchase one, usually the problem starts with the seller.

On the same topic of the pet lasting, look at how many dogs and cats stay with their original owners. It is absurd how many get loose, look at the pounds, absolutely absurd how many and some very aggressive no matter the breed are running free because ppl just don't care.

Now,just as the dogs and cats,ad reptiles and their are far more animals in homes with caring ppl living good lives than not.

I agree with pythons or Boas that reach over 10 foot or so should maybe have requirements to own, even just small requirements so a seller cant sell a retic to a 10 year old talking his dad into it.

My snakes would die within several days in the winter here, especially the Boa. I think that goes for most states here. Florida is where this problem is and look at the everglades on a map compared to the rest of the US.

Its true too like VF and others say, motor bikes, surfing, snowboarding, rock climbing, driving, sky diving, scuba diving, motocross, guns, dogs,,,,,,,,,,,,it ll can be dangerous. These ppl get donations and some are straight up paid weather its grants or whatever to get involved in screwing things up for ppl like us in this hobbie. They got one thing in mind and thats completing their task,no matter how it gets done, if they don't,they loose the faith of their peers and followers and supporters, which means their money. I know Im not explaining this well because I just get a bit shattered by this all, it just amazes me that if their is a problem in a tiny corner of the world they then want to ban them in the entire USA. USA land of the banned. WTF is going on? sorry Im done I need to eat something, getting dizzy.Dog just farted, see, dangerous pit bull, bout killed me.

there are already plenty of laws in place that make sure that there are only responsible owners, every time you hear about something bad happening, i can guarantee that they did not obey the laws that are already in place. SO instead of restricting the ones that are responsible even further, why not just enforce the laws they have. Also, a majority of the pythons that are loose are not from pet owners but from zoos that got torn apart during hurricanes and it was really not anyones fault.

keeping herps/exotics is a hobby that many of us enjoy. I personally dont see the difference with me owning a few different reptiles, when a neighbor down the road from me could have pit bulls and rotweilers? where is the difference there? how many people get killed or mauled by dogs every year? i bet its a whole lot more than people who get injured by reptiles.

one thing i have realized is it doesnt matter how many people we try to educate about keeping herps and exotics is it will always fail. Lets face it there arent that many people who will side with us on this issue. Its sad to say but it's kind of true. i will talk about people about my reps all the time and not many people understand where i am coming from. i get weird looks all the time. I dont see the differnce between owning a dog or a cat and owning an iguana or monitors or a big snake. The same reasons go into owning a dog or a cat. why do you want one? there are tons of reasons; they look cool. they keep me company. hell maybe even the chicks dig them? they help you pass the time. there are just as many if not more people out there who neglect and do the same things that happen in the herp world to other animals. people just see it so often that they turn away.

i know i will catch alot of crap for this but if they ban pythons, then they should just go ahead and ban a whole lot more than that. lets just not let people own super exotic fish either, or how about all those birds you enjoy, nope cant have those. how about that cute little hampster your daughter wants, sorry cant have that either. lets just let people own A dog or A cat. owning and caring for herps is a way of personal expression. we have the right to do this just like other people have the right to do what makes them happy.

thats my opinion on that issue.

well we proved now that other things are dangerous when not controlled, our comparisons are cleared up. So as the OP now seeing some of these reasons, what is it that the biggest point may be here? Any animal wondering can be a death threat to many other beings if it can over power it. So why not ban pythons or large snakes? Is thier still truly an explanation needed here, I mean if so it just amazes me. Some new well thought out laws, sure, fine,do it,but banns, do you really see that being fair after seeing the comparisons of everything else?
