I, personally, would love to be able to just have adults from the wild that are breeding size as soon as they are in my possession. As for how I feel, I do agree that the militation on the size of the animal is a good thing. Keeping adults in the wild able to breed is the best thing to keep the population what it is. Larger animals tend to be a little stronger but the idea of keeping the size to around 12" isn't a bad idea to me

I believe all breeders (especially females should be left in wild) should have restrictions.
Just like native breeding wild life regulations. Older breeders tend to have larger litters thus
younger non breeders should be harvested for commercial sale.

Pups are easier to acclimate to new enclosures and new water conditions.

To be honest, nobody really studied the whole subject. What are the numbers of the rays killed in the wild, 60k+?!? That's a ridiculously large number, and if that doesn't affect the wild populations, taking a few thousand more adults doesn't seem such a bad idea.

My first impulse is to stay out of the controversy ...but temptation is too high.

i feel that sub adult rays are harder to get breeding than young pups

it can take longer to get a sub adult happy enough to breed

a young 3 month old pup can be taken from the wild and breeding within 2.5 years some sub adult rays never breed if taken from the wild at a older age

i cant see why breeders need the older rays now if its just to increase the gene pool they will get the same results in a few years with young pups

in the space of 5 years i have bred p14 from captive bred pups and i am nearly their again

i am by no means a breeder just a hobbyist who takes good care of his rays if i can do it why cant the big time breeders unless they are just in it for a fast $$$

it meant to be a long term thing breeding rays not just MONEY NOW

I think its interesting whether or not ray keepers will support vendors who sell large wild caught adult rays or not....

The consumers do have the voice and power in this situation!

IF this is true then maybe when the price comes down we will ALL be able to afford black rays.......

Normal Leos will be considered crap compared to the 1K Island, Eclipse, BD, and in turn they will actually be obtainable for us normal, run of the mill, poor folk.

Thats only if people refuse to buy them at that price. Key word is refuse, since many people can afford these rays but MIGHT choose not to, whether based on price or Adult WC theology.

if all the black rays coming out are sub adults do you think the prices will drop NO

more shipping costs

and do you really think any of these rays will be for the general public at prices they can afford NO

just greedy exporters/importers
