I was in one of the local fish stores yeterday and they have a tank setup with this fish. (duh lol) the thing is it is not for sale and I have seen it there for a couple of months. So I asked about it and I was told it was one of the managers fish So I asked what it was. Sry I can't remeber what it was. Then I was told that it was supposed to be extinct in the wild. That's why it wasn't for sale.

It was about 10" long had a chiclid esk body.kind of a medium blue color. But the thing that was distinct about it was it's duffy looking horse teeth. I mean this thing had some nasty chompers on him. looked like a fish with some big buck teeth. Sorry for the crappy discription. If I can remeber right it was from either maylasia or madagascar.

So does this sound like a fish anyone would know anything about. And does anyone here have such a fish. One that you just cannot find in the wild anymore. I thought it was kinda cool that he had a fish that no longer existed outside the hobbiest aquarium. (not that its cool that there are no wild populations anymore)

yeah I know I forgot to get one lol But it kindof looks like a dovii but it didn't have the black strip it was more solid in color

It looked almost exactly like this fish If I had a better pic of it head on to look at the teeth I could say for sure

Paretroplus menarambo is a freshwater fish endemic to Madagascar and epitomizes captive breeding efforts to save threatened Malagasy fish. The last reports of this species in the wild were in the late 1990s and it is now listed as Extinct in the Wild. However, breeding populations are maintained in captivity thanks to animals collected in 1993 and shipped back to Old World Exotic Fish in Homestead, Florida, USA. The main causes for the loss of this species were deforestation, which had a detrimental effect on the species freshwater habitat, introduced alien species, and overfishing.

exert from the page I found the pic

Yep this is the fish I found a better pic fromthe front and its got the same messed up teeth. I guess the guy was right about being extinct in the wild

still clueless...but that menarambo is fairly rare in the hobby....wouldn't mind getting one of those in the future

IDK how rare it is in the hobby but in the wild it is supposed to be non existant. Hopefully a mod can bring in some light on this fish

And it is the above pictured fish and next time I go ill take the pic for you all but it is what I listed above. I am kind of impressed with myself for finding it online.

I searched for maragascar fish and found it lol

A big hunk of Madagascan fish are in danger of becoming extinct. it is a pretty bad situation.
