Extinct aquarium fish

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have a breeding group of menerambo. I am currently sitting on about 200 fry that are about 2 and a half months old. Any one in Canada interested in some sould get in contact with me I won't want a ton of money for them but I do need to cover my costs for raising them.

This species of fish just like most freshwater fish from Madagascar are in grave danger of extinction. Paretroplus menarambo was thought to be extinct for over 10 years, though an isolated population was reported to exist but no more details are forthcoming. I raise this species along with Pe maculatus. If anybody is interested to have juveniles of this fish send me a pm or see aquabid- about 50% of proceeds are donated to WCS for conservation.

And if you buy Ciclasoman's Menarambos you will not be disappointed. He shipped me 6 adults and they are incredible in every sense of the word.

I guess extinct in the wild doesn't go hand in hand with expensive in the hobby. glad to see they found a population in the wild too

Who knows what the real status of these fish are in the wild. One thing is certain and that is as far as anyone is concerned they are ultimately doomed in the wild if there are no viable populations and human growth, pollution and introduction of non-native predatory species is factored in. However, there are a few dedicated hobbyists out there who are trying to breed them. If we can't have them in the wild, we can at least keep them in our aquariums.

Btw it's a good idea to keep a large group of them. I picked up 12 from Jose too only 11 survived the trip but they're doing great along with some Pe. Dambabe and 1 Pe. Maculatus. I think it's a noble cause what Jose is doing, esp with 50% of the proceeds going to WCS. These guys are not cheap at the slightest sense but they are very rewarding to have and if you can breed them you'll be doing your part in conserving the species.

I agree with x0x0x0. These fishes are very rewarding and definitely worth a try for any serious cichlid keeper. In a large tank, a large group of 6 or more is quite impressive and develop very nice colors and patterns.

Tiger Dat do you have any pinstripe dambas lefts? Do you live in victoria, BC, Canada? What would the prices be? Any information on them size, ph, hardness, temperment, etc? Thanks:)
