I hope it wasn't baking soda. Sodium bicarbonate will RAISE the pH.

As state above, don't mess with the PH as long as it is stable. Mine comes out of the
tap at 8+ and I have never tested it below 8 in my tanks. Have never had a PH issue.

Ray's are pretty tolerant to fairly high and fairly low PH just not major swings from one end to the other of the spectrum. Being in Spokane where our tap water is 7.6-8 I just use drift wood to help lower my PH to a more tolerable level. I have ray's and discus and they are thriving. My reticulated ray's have had 2 litters of pups in the last 5 months, and my Discus are spawning. So I wouldn't worry too much about the PH, I would worry more about the chemicals you are adding than anything. But it is good that you are testing your water and you know the params of your own tank. Let us know if there are any more questions any of us can anser for you.

hope all goes well. i dont add anything to the water but prime. im on well water. hope the ray does better. im not far from u, im in arlington up near darrington. u enjoying the cold lol

WOW lol. or should i say...LUCKY lol, Prime makes city/tap water safe for fish. gets rid of all the chlorine and additives harmful to fish
