I like polypterus. Love the prehistoric look that have and how primitive they are Its like being able to glimpse into the prehistoric world.
Also love viejas and plecos.

The only fish i actually hate are silver dollars. Huge appetites and waaaaay to jittery for me. Never understood the fascination in them.

Not a fan of cichlids in general, but there are always exceptions. Love my rams, enjoying angelfish. Not much into African rift lake cichlids, I guess. Maybe if I lived somewhere with respective water chemistry I could learn to enjoy them. This hobby has surprised me more than once when it comes to how much joy a fish can give you!

We should all stay open minded :)

It seems to change here. I really know nothing about Africans... (hate?) Cant say that.

Really loving Geophagus as of recent. I keep Managuense and fancy goldfish as well.

That's why I like them. Wild at feeding time, always making full use of the tank, never boring. They are the only characin that I have ever kept that I liked after a week.

The only thing I really can`t see is the whole glofish thing. Test tube fish, meh! I am not really into any line bred fish either. I like fish as they occur in the wild. I don`t care if its Africa, South America or Antarctica or where ever. There are some I would never keep (not enough interest) and others I would like to very much, just not now.

For now the thing I am "into" is loaches and barbs. I love the way they huddles and I don`t have to worry about them killing each other. I cant afford a full time security guard like you need for certain groups of cichlids (you know who you are).

I've always had a thing for catfish, tetras and loaches, on the other end cichlids i tend find over rated. Yeah there are some out there I like (shellies, pikes and some of the oddball species) but for the most part I find them to be over-rated. I feel like everybody keeps cichlids nowadays, either big cichlids or Africans. I dunno could be my inner hipster speaking.

To be honest the only things I'm not really into are the very large fish, and hybrids. I guess don't knock it till you've tried it.
Same goes for most cichlids, very cool but I have to try something other than a salvnini. Pelvachromis likely

I have a soft spot for goldfish, very interactive and loveable

I really like the smaller side of the hobby with it being the main think I can keep. I'm busy setting up 2 smaller tanks.

My true favourites are oddballs and African fish. I have a soft spot for them, the peculiar looks, activity and rarity of some oddballs really draws me in. I personally love the fish in Africa, riverine cichlids, polypterus and all. My 70 gallon is my dedicated oddball tank. I love the unusual and unknown :D

My biggest desire is to keep some South African natives, the stuff we have is phenomenal

It's an odd thing, for for ages my LFS had a couple of polypterus in and I used to vaguely look in the tank and wonder why people would want to keep them. Now I'm crazy about them!

I love catfish and oddballs. My favourite catfish are the sturisoma festivum but I have about 8 different whiptail varieties at the moment. I adore oscars (I have one currently) and most SA cichlids. The Jaguar cichlids are amazing but I can't see myself owning one on space grounds but who knows. I have a small herd of Javanese medaka which I'm very fond of and 9 ctenopoma acutirostre which I absolutely dote on. Who doesn't love corydoras :-) I'm not a huge tetra fan but I love ember tetras. I'd keep more tetra species and probably get into them but I always seem to have fish that would either eat them or that they would harass.

Most African cichlids don't really appeal to me, not sure why. I think maybe because many look like marine fish and for some reason, although I like to look at marine tanks, I've never wanted to have one. Also, I don't like the general proportions of the fish, SA cichlids are a beautiful shape IMO and the Africans are too long.

Likewise, never got into the livebearers.

I always like to see stingrays and they are very interesting but I have no desire to keep them.

I'm only keeping smaller, "peaceful" CA cichlids and polys right now. I'm fascinated by the cichlids of Madagascar. Really like Tanganyikan cichlids too.

I don't know if I'm just bored of seeing them or what but I can't stand green terrors anymore, same can be said for Dovii. Never really cared for peacock bass either.

I have a lot of fish that I love and very few that I really don't care for. Like a lot of you have stated I think tastes change as different fish are kept and I'm sure there will be new favorites as I try new fish. Right now I really love the vieja group. My synspillums are probably my favorites, full of color and personality. Also really digging my archers. Would love to someday try keeping aros and peacock bass if I ever have a big enough tank.

Fish that never really floated my boat.... guppies, platies, goldfish.
