i think your better off using the right size clamp for this...silicone unless specially made for this could and probably is toxic.. i am so sorry for your loss.. i had one of my connections come off.. and i did not lose any fish.. but could have if i was not home...

I have always used at least two filters in case one fails for whatever reason. And on
systems with heavy stock I run three.

Today while I was at work, the tube going from my sump into the tank somehow came off the powerhead. Anyway, I came back to 3 pinima, 3 orinos and 1 mono dead and all the remaining fish gasping for breath. I dunno what to do. That was almost my whole collection. I'm sooo f ing bummed right now. I feel like I should just get out of the hobby now.

I know this thread is a few months old but I don't quite get it. The filter failed for about half a day and that killed 7 fish? Is it that serious if a your filter goes out, even for a day? Anyone? If it's treu I definately gotta make sure I have at least 2 filters.
