huntington beach animal rescue. i worked for them while i was in high school. the owner was making an average 8K a month in 1992 and he's still in business today.....
"Do you have any idea how much it costs to get set up as a non-profit business??"
it cost me 900 dollars in legal fees to start up the one i did about 8 years ago. made that money back quick.
" Do you know that if my non-profit business should ever go under that any and all moneys that are left over have to be donated to another non-profit by law"
sure, if you leave everything out in the open. non-profits go under everyday and the people who start them up walk away doing just fine. i know two people here in socal associated with cancer related non-profits who aren't poor by any means even after they dissolved their non profits.
"I'm a carpenter with four kids and a wife that doesn't work.... I'm raking in the cash! So much so I need to build a building to keep it all!"
no need to get sarcastic and rude. i never once took this attitude with your initial posts, just the people that jumped on afterward. besides, no one put a gun to your head to do all of this. you CHOSE to get involved so heavily in this hobby. you CHOSE to build the large tank you have in your basement.
"For over 20 yrs people have been dumping fish on me, usually people like you who don't give a damn. "
now you're making personal attacks on me that have zero merit. you don't know ANYTHING about me bro. i've never once flushed a fish that was alive, released a non-native into the wild or pawned one off on a friend. but keep making up complete lies if thats what makes you feel better.
"I get more tanks, I get tanks donated to me, I set them up and pay my $349 electric bill, my over $100 a month water bill. Those were last month’s statements. I got $43 in donations last month and didn't adopt out a single fish."
you do know it is possible to say "no" occasionally. if this hobby is such a burden, why do you continue getting more tanks and adopting more fish? why don't you just say "no" every once and a while. i'm sure your family would appreciate it.
"The prices of fish on my site are listed as such to detour people just like the person questioning my motives. They are to detour people who just want a TSN because they "cool" looking. Only the serious hobbyist is the one who responds about the big cats or the $50 Oscars because it's those people who have the appropriate sized tanks and it's those people who have know how to care for the fish."
listen bro, your prices are going to detour people who know the hobby and the fish you have up on your website. i've got an empty 100gl just waiting for a few large cichlids and i plan on picking up a few from lfs' that have fish donated. but i'm not going to pay absurd prices for fish and if i lived in your area and saw your website i wouldn't give it a second thought. not because i'm not a competent fish keeper but because your posted prices are too high. rarely, even when its posted that "price is negotiable" is that really the case. in my opinion. you should just list the fish you have up for sale without any prices listed and say something like "email/call for pricing." that would eliminate alot of the bullsh*tters out there who won't make the commitment to the fish.
