a bit skeptical for collecting sake, but how did you personally collect these in honduras and you live in WA?

Im not sure what you're implying? Are you familiar with airplanes? They allow humans to travel all over the world and then return back home.

congrats ...
they look so nice .. is it the 1st spawing time ?
and how old are the dovi?

Yep first time spawning. They are about 3 years old now. All parachromis I have had in the past have all spawned at a much younger age...

awesome fish..BTW i only live like 1.5 hours from you...too bad i already have a dovii...i could have bought some of your nice fry...im a bit impatient bout my dovii though...just takes too long to grow...
about collecting , did you go by yourself or with a collecting group? i want to try this amazing adventure one of these days..

The tooth should grow back, ours lost one of his some time ago and it came out again.
The fish are adorable - but I got a question: How many fry did you get out of this spawn and what are you planning to do with them? We are keeping our pair in separate tanks at the moment as these fish are real tank busters and quite unsociable so we are reluctant to get them to breed and then find out we can't home the little ones!

Kyle went with us on our 2007 trip to Honduras, we collected two batches of dovii fry and I believe he is the only person to get a few from each batch, I still have a lone female as no one it seems but Kyle managed to grow out a adult male, I have been to Honduras 5 times and this is the only trip where we actually found any dovii to collect, seems they are a big item on the local menu and very rare in that part of the world. Kyle, are both these guys from the irrigation pond in the orange grove or the bigger fry Neon caught up by the road? Mine is from the orange grove. How many La Ceiba fry you want for the trade?

thats odd. dovii have been one of the fastest growing fish I have ever kept. I tried about 7 different times, with pairs and singles, to grow them in a community tank but they just outgrew everything by like 3x. Its been a little while, but Id say I got over an inch a month out of all of them in a 265 and a 125. I do weekly 50% water changes and at the time, fed them fresh caught shrimp daily, along with pellets, earthworms and peas. Every single one I had was over 6 inches at around 6 months and continued growing like that until around 10-12 inches.
