i had r. octofasciatus "Cenote Azul", i collected myself and sold the lone male a few months ago, there is no way to distinguish between wild or not, the red coloration has nothing to do with anything........

I hear you ira will find out he said and let us all know but they are definitly from a legit source however any way we wouldn't know unless everyone on this site seen there F0 come out of the river themselves. But I believe my salesman lol

You can collect, who says they are restricting. If you can get passed Mexico's check at airport you are kinda home free. Mexico has laws that dont make sence when it comes to fish/wildlife...well many US laws dont makse sence either, but back to Mexico. Cichlids are eaten every day by locals, and the gov. and buisneses kill cichlids everday, due to the massive polution that goes into the rivers and lakes. There is no restriction on collecting. As long as your not trying to bring back 100's your good, but even that has it's ways.

I thought Mexico was seriously restricting/eliminating collection. Did you get a location? I'd love to get some F0 JD's.

exactly and my jd pair is wild and are rio naranja , thanks joe

^ that's exactly what Joe just said. It is illegal, but it does happen. Your trying to tell me that tons of illegal drugs, and immigrants cross the Mexico/US borders, but it's impossible to get fish accross? All you need is enough money, and the right person, and you have wild fish. I also think that stopping the export of their fish is not at the top of their list of things to do, with all the other more serious problems Mexico has.

I can't open the file, but anyway, Mexico's laws are set more for the protection of mamales like spider monkies, ocelots etc... and other wild mamals as well as birds such as big macaws or really any parrots, tucans etc...and the fish part is most concerned about marine fish like the Clarion Angel and the rest of marine fish and corals. Cichlids...aka...mojaras, they can give two hoots about. I import LEGALLY from Mexico. Yes did some dumb as at Alaska airlines screw things up for my importation...yes, but not becasue of Mexicos laws but because she said the airline did not allow trasporting 'aquatic" pets only regular pets like dogs and cats, even though I had airline permitts, US Fish and Wildlife License for import/export. My bribe was not big enough was the problem. But I was not going to fork over $500 for a box of mojaras, unless you guys were cool with paying $200 a fish?? I dont think so! Mexico can care less about the cichlids, they put Tilapia in there which there is more of than cichlids in many spots, human crap flows from the toilets to the rivers, paper mills, refinaries, yadda yadda all dump into these rivers. There are NO collecting restrictions on cichlids...UNLESS, you are trying to fish in a National Park/Reserve, like La Media Luna. That means no Bartoni or labridens from the lake...BUT guess what there is a big irrigation canal flowing out the lake the runs for miles and miles, and it is perfectly legal to fish there, and all the bartoni and labridens are there swiming in and out of the La Media Luna. I know I've fished them out of both places back in the mid 90's. No disrespect towards Ken, but also many of the cichlid guys, dont want everyone and there mother going down there and getting cichlids, which I understand. But in all honesty there is NO restriction. I called US Fish and Wildlife and asked if there were any restrictions into the U.S. way back when I first got my import license. They said NO, not for cichlids. Not from Mexico. ONLY marine fish. If you try and bring back fish, you may get hassled in Mexico, if your NOT lucky. But with all docs legal, you will ahve no problems in the USA, unless you bring back too many, and then that is considerd for commercial reasons and you will have to pay customs and taxes, or get the fish confiscated. i'm done! :nilly:
