F1 Labiatus from Rapps

Use an incomplete divider once they size out differently. For now, keep them divided with egg crate fully.

I should have them completely seperated now at 4.5" when Jeff has had them together and said they have been getting along well?

The only drawback I see with this is that a male Nic will get 8" eventually. Maybe more. I know mine was easy 8" when I rehomed it.

Why this could be an issue is because if the male Nic is the same size as the labiatus he won't have anywhere in the tank where he can go for refuge that the labiatus can't get to.

Now, I don't have a tonne of experience with CA cichlids, and none with Amphilophous, but I did keep Nics and Cons and in my opinion Cons can not only handle themselves better than Nics, they stay a lot smaller and you could easily create places where they could go that the labs couldnt.

Food for thought anyhow.

If I can ever get my hands on an 8' tank you better believe I'm getting Amphilophous, Nics, and cons in there. It would be awesome if it works!

it will for sure, i would do it until they have a few spawns under their belt and the bond is stronger. if its a 125 i would go ahead and throw in some convicts, however long term, i like silver dollars too. Although they dont give a threat and reason to defend like the other cichlids, they can give the male something to keep his mind on. so all in all, i would get some convicts in there with them until they have spawned a few times and are better suited with eachother. then throw in some silver dollars for the long haul.

I haves used a breeding pair of convicts as targets for a spawning pair of restarting in the past in a 150. They worked great save for the times they were able to pick off some festae fry. Provide plenty of cover for them and they will serve as a nice distraction for your devils.
