Factory Office Indoor Pond Build

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I hope some of you can help me with experience/suggestions for waterproofing the system.

I am leaning towards a combination of:
- waterproofing agent in the concrete
- waterproofing paint on top of that.

Check out polyurea. You would have to get a professional to spray it on. It can be used in potable water applications, fish tanks, bridge abutments, hulls of speed boats, etc. I'm sure you can find it in your country. Here's a couple websites in the US.

It's actually used in ponds and pools. Here's the website of a contractor who applies it:

Happy man today. Saw the site, met my customer's wife as well, she is as enthusiast at the prospect of a pond as he is.
Best part, they decided to go outside with the pond, in front of the office.
Will post some pictures tomorrow, but currently, piling and horizontal connecting beams done. Entrance at the side so full 24 meter available.

1 settling tank, 1 bog and sloping down to grow out and then main pond.
Will use large flat stones to create waterfall-streams from bog to grow out and to main pond.
All concrete, 2x4" drains and a skimmer. Deepest point somewhere at 170 to 200cm.
70cm above ground, rock-garden/paved with potted plants from the street towards the pond.
So we are pretty much back at the arapaima option again though only if I can find a way to be safe with jumping.
Might go with plexiglas up from the pond wall or something like that.

More later..

Cheers,
Luc

Thanks Joelypops, I am sure eager to start, drew out some ideas on a piece of paper during lunch, he was just all happy and asked if he could keep it. Guess he's showing his wife, enjoying the idea already.

Ok, couple of pics of the construction site and building plans.

This is the view from planned Settling-Tank and Bog towards the main pond.

PC120220.jpg
Frontal view of Settling Tank and Bog, main pond will be on the right.

PC120224.jpg
The front of the office. The extension for toilets is not drawn in yet.

PC120225.jpg
The side/main entrance of the office.

PC120226.jpg
Top view of the office. Again without the 2x5meter extension at the top left of the office for the toilets.

Thought the blocks where 6x6, but it works out to 5x5 according to the drawings. So total pond system will be 20meter, not 24.

The office front will be in sand-color/yellow brickwork.
With that in mind, large rocks/stones and pavement should really work out well.
Front wall of the pond without straight 90' corners except on the left back side, where the bog/settling-tank face a walk-way around the factory for maintenance.

Settling Tank I plan on using concrete prefab rings that they commonly use for underground wastewater tanks. 200cm diameter, level with the bog.
Grow-out tank about 20cm lower, water cascading over flagstone into the Grow-out.
From there, another 20cm lower same idea into the main pond.

3 drains, all going into the settling-tank.
2 bottom-drains and 1 skimmer.

I am planning on a minimum of 3 pumps similar to what I have from Settling tank into the Bog.
Maybe 1 closed loop for some waterfalls in the main pond.

When in doubt go monster?

I have been going back and forth à bit last couple of days. Thinking if liner would not be a good alternative.
Need to make some calculations on the cost, but doing a liner pond would make it easier to build barriers along the water-line with rocks and plants, so there's place for smaller fish to hide and the shallow area makes for the arapaima to stay more in the deeper parts.
Would make for a far easier construction.
Plenty of time and work to do for sure
