So I have an empty 160g and I have been kicking around all sorts of idea when it hit me, why not Fahaka?

I have read through several threads including the fact sheet and I had a question on diet and stages.

What size is a Fahaka considered a baby? And for diet is frozen foods acceptable - blood worms, brine shrimp, etc. and how often should they be fed?

At what size do they get out of this baby stage, and is this considered the adult stage? I would prefer to feed mussels, oysters, crab legs (any specific type?) and market shrimp. Again the question is how much how often and are these considered nutritional enough foods?

Our Mbu started out on krill. Then, crayfish as soon as he was able to handle them. The sooner a puffer is onto complete prey items, the better. I assume fahaka would be no different.

Snails are a good staple diet. When its 4" down, feed it snails the size of the puffers eye.. Depending on aggression and will, it may not apply a little sooner or a little later. Mine loves apple snail, and no way its eyes are that big (10" fahaka)...even at a baby age it can go for crustaceans dead or alive. When its little, just crush the shell to expose the meat. Puffers absolutley NEED crunchy food often but not always with only a couple breeds as exceptions. Avoid krill as meals and only include it as a snack. Buy seafood from the grocery store for all other meals, shrimp, mussells, squid, clams,.. meaty meaty foods that are exclusivley RAW no pre cooked foods

Probably into the few inches when they can break into those kinds of things, but they do need crunchies to keep their teeth short an healthy. I would do blood worms and snails. The if not live switch to seafood around 5-6 in. Smaller easier one like frozen then defrosted crays

I have no issues with snails and small shrimp like ghost shrimp, I just don't find it all that appealing to watch it rip apart a crayfish is all.

Anything I buy from the grocery store will be from the meat counter and uncooked/no seasoning.

lol half the fun of keeping predatory puffers is their stalking/feeding behavior for live foods, but I guess you can get away with frozen food if you'd prefer.

When I had one, I fed chopped frozen market prawn with shell still on while he was little. However, it took him a long time before he would go after anything other than live ghost shrimp or freeze dried krill. Mind you, ghost shrimp has no real nutritional value.

As he got older, I moved onto thawed clams on the half shell, full shelled shrimp, and of course, live crawfish.

I feed our puffer frozen whole crayfish. Thawed, of course. Trust me: It makes no difference to them. They still rip it apart, regardless.
