Fahaka in a community tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Wow awesome looking tank! Looks almost coral!?
The fahaka is called Stone Cold... as when I got her I expected a single fish species tank with a psychotic fish but ended with a fluffy bunny rabbit in a comm tank!
Yup its a fake coral insert, love it because it brighten up the bedroom and has a million hiding places for all the fish. Originally had live plants, but they just served as a chewing post for my Fahaka, Nacho.

Yep I have always had issues with live plants I just cannot get them to thrive... bloody things drop leaves and attract algae might just rip mine out and add more spider wood. Yep the coral looks good very impressive you just need to bulk protein feed your fahaka to get him to grow... they are more fun when they are big!

Achilles1763 Achilles1763 Yes. Brackish to full marine as an adult apparently. Only freshwater as a juvenile. Bought at Walmart where all bad fish decisions come from Poor thing looked awful, but had the sweetest face! When my husband said I could have one if I wanted it I couldn't help myself.
This is him(spot) shortly after I got him.

I was highly amused that it tried to eat flies through the glass. Haha!
And these are from a month ago. It's stomach changes all the time. From Snow White to this dirty color. IMG_1002.JPGIMG_1003.JPG
I'd post a newer one but of course he is sleeping in one of his hiding spots right now. Little butt.

Your fahaka is very impressive! Puffers are so adorable

I cannot criticise at all we have all been there! I have 'rescued' a few fish in my Time from poor fish shops... thankfully We have no Walmart... but pets at home is probably similar, I don't even buy dog food from there! He is a very cute little fellow... I have to resist every time I see puffers generally as they look adorable and I want all of them.
Puffers will strike at most things... if it moves. My fahaka and hairy puffer used to attack things on the other side of the glass, including my finger.
Thanks she is my sweetheart fish and SJ calm for a fahaka. I have put in a new addition to the tank now, I feel in love with a fish at a lfs and went for it... he is settling in very well... but doesn't take any ****! From any of them.

He is a ocellated snakehead... Fully tropical species and tank bred so defensive but not a killer at all. He had really helped even out the aggression from the spawning Oscar pair and the salvini, as I was getting a little worried that the oscars were properly having a go at the fahaka bumping her etc but now the snake has kept them to 2ft of the left end of the tank so everyone else can move freely. I have to say given the aggression level of my stocking the tank is working very well, everyone has there spaces and everyone's fins are fully intact etc... But I know it could all change at the drop of a hat as everyone keeps telling me and if that happens I will move fish around etc but at the moments it's a beautiful and fascinating tank to watch and they are all growing well.

The snakehead is beautiful is love it. Might have to put that guy on my list.

I love your set up, my most dominant fish is my Salvini, he is a big bad-ass male with long streamers on his fins (I didn't know that happened with Salvinis!). Hope my Fahaka will get along with him and others in my main tank one day when I upgrade. Only fish you have which I don't plan on trying are the Oscars. Love the color and feel like I could manage the aggression, but my tanks are overstocked as is, plus I feel like they get gigantic faster than most fish.

Looks big. How long is it now? It's crazy seeing one in a community setup
