Fahaka in a community tank

Sounds like a good idea in theory...fahakas aren't exactly fast (except over short distances) so a fast moving larger school like you say make sense. Just be warned... if you haven't already lol... fahakas are relentless. If they get the idea to kill something... it dies. But a school of dollars might not annoy the puffer enough to warrant the energy it would take to kill them.

Could be a safer bet..

Mine tolerates a group of Julidochromis, they were in the tank before him and I think he just got tired of trying to catch them. Now they hang near him at feeding time eating his left overs and he doesn't seem to mind. So I had the same thought and decided to try a group of Congo Tetra, it was on like donkey cong. I didn't think he could move that fast, fortunately the congos were fast enough to stay away long enough for me to get them out. Then after I yelled at him, he pouted in the corner like a dog that just peed on the rug.

Yeah mine sulks when I shout at her for stalking her tank mates.. generally when she is hungry. She actually stops her disruptive behaviour after a sufficiently vigorous finger wagging. Then either looks at me like butter wouldn't melt or just slinks off to her cave to pout.

My Doberman does exactly the same!

Yup, i used to use different hand gestures to almost communicate with my puffer... they definitely are smarter than most people think...

Would Redhook SD or Tinfoil Barbs(the ones I've been leaning towards) be too big for the Puffer? And how many would be okay with the puffer in a 180g w/ drip system and adequate filtration?

The red hook silver dollars could be an issue.. I have heard of them fin nipping larger slow moving fish. I don't know with the tinfoils.. So be careful... maybe try Odessa barbs? Just an idea especially with a young fahaka.

^^^ great idea but definitely not safe for little peoples fingers! Puffers don't nip fingers they remove them lol
