If you have a 10G laying around by some chance you can use that to quarantine your first batch of snails, and while they're in there you might even get them to start breeding which will definitely help you a lot more in the long run for clean snails, especially stuff like ramshorns which breed quite rapidly...

10g's I have quite a few! A bit inexperienced with snails i'm afraid. Been raising fish for over 30 years but I'm usually trying to get rid of snails rather than procreate! Anyway, what am I looking for during QT? How do I know when they are clean?

Took a few pics.....does the red in the eyes develop with age? Or did I just get one who's eyes aren't very red?

With snails, its basically would be the same as fish, just watch out for any signs of possible parasites, although normally if you quarantine for 2 weeks or so you should be okay if theres no obvious signs...

As for breeding them, its as easy as chucking a few plants in a tank along with a few snails and watch them breed... which should happen pretty quick...

Anyway, as a note you may need to de-worm your puff, since it could be that its extremely skinny from not having enough food, OR as i'm guessing, is its got some form of IP's, but don't worry, with the right meds you should be able to sort him out real quick...

BTW, if you don't want to do snails, you could also consider Marble Crays if you can buy any in your area??? since they clone themselves which also makes life pretty easy...

I was thinking I may run some meds as he does seem a bit skinny. He's a new import though so I want to try and give him a chance to fatten up. I have de-wormed with both prazi powder, and prazi pro. Are these OK for puffers? If not please advise and i'll grab the right stuff.

I wish i could help you with medication names, but unfortunately being in Hong Kong this is one area where you might have to talk to PufferPunk instead, since i tend to have to use medications you don't find in the US (since we don't get the same meds here)...

But if i remember correctly, i THINK Prazi pro should be okay (But don't quote me on that since i'm not sure)??? although you'll have to keep an eye on your puff since one round of treatment may or may not work... also keep an eye on how much you use, since puffers are scaleless fish some meds can actually "burn" their skin...

Any way, HERE is an article from the Puffer Forum which will probably give you some better insight what you should look out for and how to treat your puffer...

Hope that helps...

Thanks for the link. I've de-wormed lots of fish before, but I have never kept a fahaka before. Just want to be sure of what I am doing. I'm going to remove him to a 10g BB hospital tank for now, as I don't want him passing lots of worms into the substrate of the tank he is in. I'll treat both tanks though of course!

Best of luck with your puff, as i'm sure once hes been all de-wormed hes going to enjoy getting around...
