I decided to go with metro, and he's on his first round. Turns out he's a fussy eater too. I've only been able to get him to take market shrimps, and fresh killed crays. He took a bite of a mussel once, and turns away from them ever since.
be patient, if hes got an ip that probably has alot to do with fussy eating. my fahaka wouldnt touch anything other than earthworm and bloodworms for a month, just kept putting small pieces of shrimp in front of him til he finally ate it, now there isnt much he wont eat
IF after de-worming and everything you still find him being a picky eater one method you could try to get him eating new foods is by getting a clove of FRESH RAW Garlic. What you do is, crush it up and once you've defrosted what your planning on feeding him, rub it around in the crushed garlic then try feeding... the smell of the garlic should at least get him to try it again...
I know personally this has worked in the past for me when i've dealt with picky puffers...
He definitely seems more settled in. He buried himself today and is watching the feeder guppies I have in there with him. He's also plumping up a bit. He came out to eat some shrimp and went right back to burying himself. Large water change today and another treatment. I have not seen him pass anything other than poop. I'll keep watching though.
Nope, just a few baby ones from my sons guppy tank. I give my other fish live guppies as a treat once in a while. Threw a couple in with him the other day when I was feeding the others.
Large water change and round three (the final one) begins today. Have not seen him pass anything unusual, though at the outset of treatment he did have some stringy stuff come out. All solid and brown now though. He is feeling better too I think. Comes right to the front of the tank when I approach. His color is really washed out but i'd expect that is from the metro.
What do you mean by the colors are really washed out??? does it kinda look like its blotchy... if that is the case it could just be a mood swings or maybe its just one of the colors of your puffer, since i have seen some fahaka's with very different colorations, as in some were very vibrant with strong stripes, others were more blotchy and less "bright" if you will...
nice puffer man our lfs had puffers once a big tank full of mixed puffers each $9.99 i saw the type in your pic too there was some green spotted some dwarf and just a bunch
