Would you charge the obese man or make him leave the plane?

  • I would charge at least half fare and endure being squeezed.

wow that sounds crazy. I had never heard of that sort of bus before. Now I gotta ask, whats the cost of one of those as compared to an actual legal one?
There is a range. It could be a third the price or lessz or it could be more. Sometimes there is no legal bus.
Oki doki. Damn, I was really hoping my mafia theory was correct or at least somewhat on the right track... That'll teach me for having an imagination... :p

Edit: a question also... How the hell did you find these illegal buses? It seems like an odd thing to just 'stumble' across lol
Well, I grew up in the Hasidic community sort of, they use these buses a lot, and I don't know, you find out most of this stuff by word of mouth.

I used to fly commercial for work in the 80's & 90's. I also flew private planes. Since I retired I don't have to fly, and I haven't flown commercial since 1999.

I have wide shoulders and hated to sit by fat people. It was fortunately rare, and usually if there was a really fat guy on a booked flight they'd find an unfortunate kid to sit next to him. Usually there was at least one or two empty seats on a business flight so no issue.

Aircraft seats are designed to unlatch and move. They should have people book by their physical size, provide the right seat, and charge accordingly. Every flight could be pre-arranged.

Funniest comedy I ever heard was about a plane crashing because all the fat people lied about their weight.

Make everybody step on a public scale as they board. Charge people by the pound to fly. The most obnoxious people would rather drive than divulge their weight, so much of the problem could vanish.

BTW, I voted be squeezed and suffer in silence.
Yet as soon as some obese whale next to me farted the silence would turn to my best Don Rickles jokes.

"I couldn't believe it, but the guy blocking the isle was even fatter then when we boarded, and my valise had disappeared!"

I said, "Damn, mister! You should hang a bell on that tuckus in case you have to back up!"

There's quite a bit of difference between height and girth when it comes to taking up a seat though. I'm 6'5" tall with a 34-35" inseam so there aren't a whole lot of people that take up more height wise then I do, yet when I fly or go to a seated event, it is mainly me that is inconvenienced by my legs because I have to keep them in a somewhat uncomfortable manner to avoid taken up others leg room next to me. With a very obese person they are basically taking up the people's next to them space in both arms and legs. There's a pretty big difference there IMO.

I'm not uncaring, but it's just the fact of the matter, if you can't fit into one seat then you should have to buy two. Just like a parking space. If you buy a wide truck like a old Humvee, slap some wide Dana60 axles on it with some 44" x 18.5" swamper tires and then can't fit it into one parking space, then you have to feed both meters because you are taking up two spaces. Same basic idea.
It’s not really comparing apples to oranges.

If I am paying for a flight I am spending hundreds of dollars, even into the thousands for a round trip and I expect to be comfortable during my flight, room for my legs, room for my hips, same for the people sitting next to me, I don’t want them spilling into my seat and taking away from my space. So I believe airlines should have larger more spacious seats and take into consideration that not everyone is 5’0 and 100 lbs.

If I am taking the bus I am paying less than $10 for my round trip, I do expect to be sitting in a cramped space and not have excessive room....there’s a huge difference in cost, and there should be a difference in expectations..

The guy who bought the bigger truck made a choice, the tall guy (you), the one with wide hips(me) we did not make these choices.

Trying to compare a $10 bus ticket with a multiple hundred dollar airline ticket, if that's not apples to oranges then I don't know what is. Even "wide hips" do not take over the persons seat next to you. It's physically impossible for a persons bone structure to be so wide that they inconvenience the person next to them unless they are Andre the Giant. The only time they do spill over into the other persons seat is when they are obese which in 95% of cases is in fact a choice. We don't have to agree though, everyone has opinions which is perfectly fine.

I guess I did kind of go off topic in my rant.

Sorry, I guess I feel like flying in an aircraft is uncomfortable and crammy the same as traveling on a bus (which it should not feel like bc of the price difference) I just think they should make it a more pleasant experience and make the seats bigger. (And no my wide hips do not overflow the seat, it’s just a complaint I guess) If the seats were a bit bigger They would Accommodate an obses person better and they wouldn’t be overflowing into another passengers seats and he/she wouldn’t need to pay for the extra seat.

Oh I agree about that. I don't fly very often at all, only have a few times in my life, but I do remember the seats are pretty small and cramped for just about anyone of any size for the most part. I doubt they will ever make them larger though because that would limit the profit they could get from the number of tickets sold. And they probably feel the more uncomfortable people are in coach the more apt they will be to buy first class. Like everything else in life sadly, it boils down to money :(
