Fake Vendors and Nonsense in the Market....

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Hey Hendre, I agree, it's not all bad, it's just not all good either.

No worries Rob, probably much bigger fish to fry right now. Just something that has been on my mind.

Hell, it's a valid point. I'm guilty of using it instead of actually commenting as well. Seeing the "like" button go away woudlntw hurt my feelings if we're being honest.

My apologies for going so far off topic, of a very important topic as the Marketplace. Good luck to all with getting it sorted out.

Another thing to harp on in the Marketplace...It's super irritating to see people list the price at $1 to get clicks, but as you open the thread and read the price is $50 or more.

As Staff, we don't have time to edit prices for you...it's faster and easier for us just to lock it and make you do it again...CORRECTLY!

Just a friendly reminder;)

GREAT point, Ben!

I think I may make that an infractable offense. Let's discuss that in Staff

"Don't like" button is, needless to say, not a symmetrical answer to the "Like" button. The motivation for the "Don't like" click can root in spite, for one thing.

I don't like these buttons anyway. We came to live in a world where the society at large accepts or at least doesn't mind a poster asking to be liked and asking to subscribe. Our children and grandchildren appear ready to do just about anything to get more "likes" on their posts. IDK about others, but this leaves a foul taste in my mouth. Why would you beg to be liked? Do something like-worthy and let me decide if I want to forget or not forget to like your input. It's needy, childish, impolite, and distasteful, it's the opposite of classy, noble, and tactful. It's kind of low IMHO because the root cause is obvious - honor and/or money. To most it appears ok to beg for honor and money. How we came to be like this is beyond me. But in any case, I don't like the button(s).

I liked that, Viktor, and couldn't agree more. But if the Like button stays, I would still like a Do Not Like option. :)

Happy Holidays!

BTW - the Do Not Like button started as a tongue in cheek discussion here in the lounge some time back, because I agree entirely with what you just stated. The only way the world could get any goofier for this old man is if I started a Go Fund Me page to support my cause. It was my attempt at showing how stupid the Like button was. I don't want to tweet, or facetime, or insta anything. If I liked those types of sites, and their ridiculous options that's where I'd be.

Having said that, a public forum is just that, made up from the public. Rob et al seem more than capable of sniffing out the twits of the forum, and with a little help from friends some jackass that ran around abusing a do not like function, would soon find themselves at the working end of a do not like hammer. Obviously my vote would be to simply do away with the like button. I use it, sometimes abuse it, but I would be very happy to never see it again.

MFK is unique and special in its own way, and that's the way we should be representing this site.

but on the flip side show me a site that is overly heavy handed, where comments get removed, threads locked, and someone is constantly attempting to tell me what and how to do it, and I'll find the door real quick.

I cant agree with this enough. Ive been a member of several other fish forums and a couple of them are either dead or on life support because of the heavy handed approach used when dealing with conflict/disagreements/conflicting opinions ect ect.

The overall fairness from admin/mods here is what has kept me here, .

Same goes for me. With mfk the mods let members "have at it" so long as things stay respectful. Some times lessons are best learned from someone you disagree with. Mods on other sites sometimes have the tone that they are correct simply because they are a mod. Talking about fish related discussions not interpretations of the rules btw

The stickies and "serious" conversations are invaluable but sometimes its fun and better off to not have things soo rigid. For example The poly section is a small tight knit group. We talk about all sorts of topics ranging from Species identification, filtration, what some ate for dinner, and so on. Taking away those conversations would greatly change the mfk experience

Thread is all over the place with complaints, gripes and suggestions but here is a suggestion as it relates to the subject, another forum that I regularly post on has a marketplace in which no posts are allowed except by the seller/thread starter so the only activity on any sale thread is from the seller either bumping or requesting that the thread be closed..with all other postings blocked there is no so called "fluff or chit chat" and any interested members have the option of contacting the seller via private message.
