I went into Tropical Treasures the other day to buy some prime and I saw they had a tank of juvenile 3" catfish labeled shovelnose 49.99

I was intrigued by the fish and decided I would come home and learn a little bit about them.

I Did a little bit of research and wanted to make sure what i was reading was the same species at the fish store so i called today to make sure what they had was the tigrinus...

well, the guy told me they're actually false tigrinus... he explained that a true will have a long top viel and almost nothing on the bottom... the false will have both viels... he said they will grow equally in size and that a true has a nicer pattern...

I would still love to add this specimen to my collection. Is there any other information I should know? Does anyone else keep false tigrinus?

yes, i just found that out too... I'll try and find info on the Jurense then...

wow... the tigrinus is much much more attractive...

i have a false tigrinus, the fins are different, as you look carefully the fins flap front to back and the actually tigrinus fins don't flap at all, straight as a airplane wings. GOT ANY MORE QUESTION PLEASE REPLY.

jurunese are nice cats...i have one...i like how they are purple with white stripes while young...i have not had a tig yet, but the top veil on my jurunese is 3x the length of my cat, while the bottom is shorter and black

A jurense is a poor man's tigrinus.

I used to have a jurense.

i guess that means i am not the only poor man in this hobby...i see some many couple hundred dollar fish being bought at once and all i can do is think...damn one day...one day i will have that kinda cash...as for now...i'll have to stick to buying my live rock in the 2-5lb increments...
