fancy goldfish tankmates.

Not all madtoms..,...some are only come out at night and will only hunt for food on the bottom of the tank. Red Shiners , Common shiners , the larger Chubs would all be good goldfish tankmates.
In my experience, madtoms WILL nipping on goldfish's long flowing fins and actually trimming them down. Also I would toss the shiners and chubs idea out in the window. They don't make good tankmates for fancy goldfish, but perhaps for single-tailed goldfish types.

I keep Uruguayan cichlids with goldfish in unheated tanks while overwintering from the pond. And the Uruguayan Corydorus erhardti are also in the same line of cool water tanks, although because they are still small compared to the others, not in the same tank.

This year, many grew too large to overwinter in tanks, so they are in a pool in the basement.

I had hillstream loaches in my first goldfish tank. However, I've since found out they like fast moving highly oxygenated water.

depends on the degree of fanciness. the further you stray away from the typical type, the less flow.

Depends on what kind of fancy goldfish, they can be single tailed (Nymph and Tamasba) or slender bodied double tailed goldfish (Jikin and Wakin). Comet & Common goldfish ain't fancy types.

Ive kept Ozark madtoms and Stonecats and neither were tail of fin nippers.....(of course I never saw the Ozark madtom...he only came out to feed at night until he got eaten), why would luxilus shiners of the same size as fancy goldfish make bad tank mates? Your right about Creek chubs and Fallfish, But wouldn't some of the less aggressive 3-5 inch chubs make good tankmates? If not,... why?
