Yeah people say this about cichlids too. "Oscars are so mean!!"

PS: Bruce are you a buckethead fan? I see yu got a KFC bucket on your head in your avatar.

Oscars have an un-nessisary reputation. Ive always found them to be relitivly mellow, aside from the fact that they will eat what they can get into their mouths.

And yes i am a buckethead fan :) But done it more for a good friend really then thought hey mightaswell use it on here aswell :)

Cool, I like Buckethead too. Im learning a few of his tunes on guitar, so far I know some of the song Whitewash.

Cheers

Yeah people can get annoying like that...
Not an lfs story but...:
i was at the beach one and i was dragging my net, and i thought i would look to see what was in it when i was in the water instead of going back to shore. I look and and i my heart skips about 3 beats. In my net is a 6 inch lined seahorse hippocampus erectus.
Im extremely happy but i know that i gotta let it go within like 15min. or it will probably die.
So, i put it in my big bucket and it wraps its tail around some macroalgae ave got in there. Some little kid comes up to me and says he likes the seahorse. Next thing i know, 20 little kids are crowded around me and my bucket, all pf them sqreaming and making annoying high pitched noises... So i have to let the poor thing go within 2 minutes of catching it, just because the kids wont shut up and im afraid that the vibrations from theyre screaming are getting amplified in the bucket and im scared that the seahorse is gonna die of stress because of it...

I do have a story a crappy one but hey! The other day i was at work and a customer wanted 6 of pur 1.5-2" Piranha so im there catching and bagging them up and talking to the bloke and hes really nice says he's had them before but is getting back into fish again or somthing. Then as im catching them theres some other people being me and the man saying 'they'll tear his hands off, look! look!' and piranha are just like any other characin really, they are very skitish and nervy.

And are swimming everywhere, and i said. If they are so bloodthirst and vicous wouldnt they have eaten my fingers off by now? I hate the stereotype that some fish have!

Stereotypes aren't going away anytime soon, and unfortunately some people are just too stupid or close minded to even try to educate. But I have to admit I still try. But, most people can't seem to figure out each other, much less figure out something even more foreign.

In Japan I kept having "Channel 2" and "Baywatch" screamed at me. I finally figured out what's on channel 2... Pornography. I was 15, and decided at that point to just keep my blonde hair pulled up under a bandanna.

Or better yet, hang out in Los Angeles for a little while, and you can see the stereotyping happening down there. Gang warfare between races, or just between gangs for living on the wrong street. Now they deserve the blood thirsty label...And people so often think we are so much better than animals...

So, all we can do is hopefully pound the information into some of these thick headed people that fish are not disposable paper decorations, that they are just doing what is instinctive for them to survive in their natural environment, and that fish do not grow to the size of their tank cause dead fish don't grow! Any time I see someone at petco or petsmart buying a fish I always butt in since 95% of employees don't have a clue about the fish they are selling. I've sold more mag-n-floats than I can remember and saved more plecos from getting sold as a window cleaner to someone with a 10 or 20 gallon tank. I need to invest in the mag-n-float company or start asking petsmart for a commission.

H. erectus in Long Island Sound??? I need to get some time off of work!

hell yeah! Really beautiful fish arent they? I love catching them... Seeing pairs of them hanging onto seaweed togetjer at low tide is very captivating...

I get a lot of people asking me if we have snakeheads in and they arent somthing that we have in often but when we do they say things like 'i dare you to put yours hands in!' i hate that documentary thing that fish zilla. People just asume that channa are evil killer fish.
not all channa are but triggerfish are i got bit THREE TIMES!!! each time left a scar!... also a worker at my lfs was feeding a notoriously bada$$ tessaletta eel ( it ate a volitans lionfish WHOLE!) by hand and ended up getting bitten and had to get 5 stitches!

(Great Stories BTW, Don't stereotype Petsmart employees)

Had a girl come in with her boyfriend, they look around Conversation ensues:

Me-How are you?
Girl-Looking to get some fish
Me-How big is your tank/what fish do you have in it?
Girl-30gal and a JD, and 3 Red-Belly Pacu
!?!:WHOA:
Me-Looking to get a bigger tank soon?
Girl-No Why
Me-Well Pacu get to over a foot and a half regardless of tank size and need 125+
Girl-Really? (looks at tag) The Face PRICELESS
Girl-Can we get these fish.....
Me-I wouldn't recommend it, as your tank is already overstocked

Sadly, I couldn't do anything.....

Also, Can we get a goldfish?
they had a bowl
(Said the whole Goldfish are dirty fish need a ten as a temp for one speal)
Well in college we had two in a bowl and they lived for 5 months till we moved and Flushed them!!!People so mean....Mom my puppy is a full grown dog now don't want it anymore POUND?

If only people realized that a goldfish has the same capacity for learning and bonding as their golden retriever...
