went to a pet store near my house. they know me. i used to buy 5 dozen feeders a week. knew multiple people on first name. they would let me hold the exotic birds when no other customers could. They were good to me and i was good to them. I bought both my rabbits there as well. well then this winch was there. her moms store and the damn thing was handed to her.
anyways i buy a 10 dollar cichlid. i had a cichlid tank and i wanted to add to it. well over night my one cichlid murdered this thing. well the store you hhave to have a water sample befoe they replace ur fish. i tested my water and it was good. all was normal and ph was 6.8. i take the water sample and the fish in and the winch is there. first tiime i have dealt with her. she tests my water. she pours the water over the strip and down the sink. hmmm odd, didnt think anything off it. then she sets my strip down and walks away for a minute. mean while im looking around. when she comes back she looks at the strip and says"your nitrates are off the chart and ur ph is too low. the ph wont show up ether" i kindly tell her that i tested the water and that the ph was 6.8 and nitrates were bearly readable on a strip, when i tested it. I also explained that 6.8 is fine for a fish.well she refused to replace my fish. thats when i realised what she had done. she ditched all my water so i couldnt ask for a new test, and she set my strip down on the counter. the counter was soaked from other tests and tanks. well i was angrey but kind because i loved this store so i went to leave. well one of the other stores employees asked about it because i knew her and she had bagged the fish for me the night before. i explain that she said my water was horrible and said i tested the water before i left so as not to waste my time.
well the lady walks up and starts raising her voice to me and my wife. BIG MISTAKE. she says we were ignorant and stormed off when she wouldnt replace my fish. i tell her i raise alot of fish and am running 6 tanks biggest 125g and that i knew what i was doing. she just keeps saying we were ignorant and stormed off. thats when my wife(a red head) finally lost it. she screams at the lady that we knew what we were doing, were devote customers of the store, and that we had kept our temper very well considering that we were treated so poorly and talked to like we had no clue with what we were doing. She then says"if you want to see stormed off, this is stormed off B*t*h" and throws open the door and we leave. the lady runs out and screams"im calling the cops, you damaged my store!!" we leave. i call later to try and smooth things over so as not to lose that store. i talk to the lady and explain what i raised and that i had experience and that we felt we acted poorly at the end but felt we were treated poorly from the beginning. she says that my wife wasnt welcome in the store and everybody was laughing at her. I explain that she was being rude again and that i know the people in the store and that i severly doubt they were laughing. I told her that we spend alot of money in the store and if my wife wasnt welcome then she could say bye to our money. that made her say well she can come in but she has to behave herself and started talking down to me again. I said sorry for wasting ur time, you will not be seeing me again.
have never been back.
1 dozen feeders(1.40) times 5
7 bucks a week. its been a year.
thats 364 dollars a year. in feeders alone. not counting the other stuff i used to buy all the time. easily spent 1500 + in the year i went to that store. i know someone who knows the owner. the owner goes to puppy mills buys 50 dollar puppys and sells some for over $1700. so i geuss my amount means squat. i used to reconmind that store but not since that. sorry so long but it pissed me off

i dont work at a store anymore but yesterday i walked into petcetera (petco of canadalol) and i was walking by the fish section when a tank marked as "dwarf gouramis" caught my eyes. I bent down to not only find that there were not only at least 45 of them in this ten gallon, but they were acually oscars! I asked for the manager and gave him hell. needless to say i havent returned there since.
Ok well I dont work at a store but I have a story.

I went to petsmart today by my house, and they have a bunch of 3-5 gallon linked display/stock tanks and like 2 or 3 30-40 gallon display/stock tanks for bigger displays/fish.
So anyway I look around for a while and started looking at the fish, nothing to intresting, mollies, platys, rotting oscars, feeders. wait, rotting oscars? I turn back and take a second look and relize these oscars are in the worst condition I have ever seen a fish in. Theres about 10 of these oscars (about 4-5") in this 35 gallon it looks like, with practicly no scales, broken fins, and there swimming all weird!
I asked the guy wtf they were doing to these fish and he said all 10 YES ALL 10 were in 2 of the small tanks and they were so crammed in there they were rubbing up against each other non stop and they tore each other up from rubbing so much! I felt so discussted. I made sure that they were treating the soares and atleast aiding in the recovery of the fish. If you ask me they shouldnt even be selling them OR displaying them in that condition.
Im in no way saying all petsmarts are bad, only uninformed employees. but sometimes there are just plain old bad employees that cant see the obvious.
This specific one is probably the worse, it had to swim down the whole time to aviod being a floater and one of his side fins no longer functioned.
