Favorite LFS "CUSTOMER" STORIES ...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Here's a recent one.

THis guy was looking at the saltwater section of my LFS. One of the employees asked him what he was looking for. The customer says, "I want a clownfish for my current tank". THe employee asks him what he already has in there. The customer says, " a school of 12 neon tetras". The employee looks really confused now. "Uh, tetras are freshwater....." Ignorant customer says, "Oh, what's the difference?" I don't know what happened after that, I walked away.

Now I'm confused, lol, so he either had tetras in salt, or was gonna put a salt water one in fresh? Sounds more like the last one.

It was probably the last one, since the tetras were still alive.

yea this is a very frequent occurance, usually with damsels. haha always good for a good chuckle.

haha and i'll go ahead and add the most humorous part of my job. not sure if any of y'all have seen those glow in the dark "jellyfish" decorations. well our store put them in with glo-fish danios as display ( under at different times either black lights or atinic). well i'd estimate about 60% of people who walk through the dptmnt and see them believe they are real (yes i'm serious). the fish employees have now taken it upon ourselves to come up with the most witty/in depth care requirements needed (or how rediculously easy they are to keep alive). we try to out-do one another now before letting on that they aren't living jellyfish rather just decor. haha although slightly mean it can bring a very amusing uplift at just the right time to keep on helping those "pleasant and knowledgeable" customers.

haha adding on to that i once explained how to do an entire saltwater set-up (for like 30min in depth) to find out they wanted to set it up for those same jellyfish (definately did not know this at the time). unfortunately the poor lady was crushed to find out they aren't living.

I had a lady literally scream at me over the phone, because she said I sold her a "Piece of sh** filter!" So I asked her to come in so I could take a look at it, and see if it was indeed defective.

She brought it in, and I hooked it up to a tank we have set up--and began filling it with water. Instantly, she stopped me and started yelling-- "I didn't know you were supposed to fill it with water!"

Apparently she thought aquarium filters ran on air.

oh this makes me want to work at my lfs petsmart and inform all those people in need
good stories man
oh i got one it was from when i was a retarded noob
i went fishing at my local pier and caught 8 baby sand sharks well i was so happy that i decided to keep them. well i got home and put them all in an 18 gal tank!!!!!!! then i remembered "wait they're saltwater i'm gonna add some salt(table salt)" well the next day i woke up and all 8 were dead i felt like $h!t so from that day i promised myself that i would get informed about every fish i like so i treat my fish better than i treat my brother!

i too am guilty of this, when i was about 14, i once caught 3 leopard sharks kept them alive till i got home, moved my pair of mated JD from their 40 gallon breeder to my 100 jaguar chiclid breeder, dump alot of table salt in the tank after i cleaned it of course to have the sharks live only 2 days and end up with a pair of jacks ending up being killed by my pair of jags.

Not as funny as the normal stories on here, but i thought i'd share my rage!

A friend from on here went to a lfs near to where i live that i'd never been to before (or haven't for a very long time, i got a little deja vu when i went there but i did used to drink a lot!) and came back with a glowing report of it and descriptions of all the monsters in stock. Happy days for me, the normal one i go to is a 45 minute drive away, has some monsters in but always as juvies as they have no large tanks to stock anything too large in. When i'd chatted with that lfs's staff in the past they'd said they knew of nowhere else local that might have the kinda big fish i'm interested in (which is all big fish really!) locally. It's always just been luck if any of the shops near me had any large fish returned. So i kept on doing the 2hr+ drives to better lfs everytime i wanted something 'different'.

Fast forward to my first trip to the store (only 25min drive!) that the friend recommended, picture the smile on my face as i view the amazingly large display tanks (one containing a 3'+ rtc, my girlfriend is pressurising me to get one now, i think i'll fold easily:D), imagine my delight at finding they can supply all the large stock tubs i want for my up and coming muti-pond plan. Then, imagine my reaction when talking to the staff there and mentioning the lfs i usually go to and they reply 'oh yeah, the guys that work there come here all the time for a look around..........' :irked::irked::irked:

Well duh, they aren't going to send their business to competitors :grinno: The only time I've been recommended to try another LFS, was when I went to a LPS that had recently gotten rid of their fish department.
