Had a guy come in today wanting us to give him a discount on some koi or goldfish because he improperly used our store brand pond algae killer and it killed 6 of his fish. That's why you A) try to avoid chemicals as much as possible and B) read the instructions!

i've had people want to buy a tank and flat tell me i "was going to" give them a discount because the economy is in a recession.. made me chuckle a bit, i mean the store's willing to work a bit with prices but not if you tell them they have to due to the economy. and in the words of my manager "you don't go to walmart and demand a discount on a tv due to economics, why would you here"

I say a similar sorta thing when i get people asking me stuff like that. I'll knock a bit off of when they've spent a certain amount or somthing. But if people ask i wont as thats just rude.

That one about the fish living in a bag really made me crack up lol#

MORE STORIES PLEEZE :D

Sorry for the derail, but Eoibio your avatar is pure awesomeness.

Short one, but it made me lmao! I was at Tropiquarium, a LFS in NJ, with my gf. And this little kid starts crying like the world was over... It was over a book. And then his mom tells him to shut up, and then asks the people that work there to help pick out some fish... She then tells her son they are going to get fish that live this time, and then very loudly, and sarcastically she says "It's going to be great." I just started dying of laughter! This kid just wanted some fish that would live and was set on the fact that the book would teach him how to keep them alive. He's a future MFK'er no doubt. His mom.... Ehhh, not so much

yea, kind of like the people i had come in the other day. they told me they just picked up their new pit puppy in the middle of the night 2 days ago, and they said its around 5 months old. they brought it into the store, it was maybe 6 - 7 weeks old. it was obviously stolen. it was also shaking because it was terrified. they then continued to tell me that they have only fed it one can of dog food for those 2 days they have had it. when they were looking around the store, i was holding the puppy. if i wouldnt have gotten fired and/or arrested, i wouldve ran out of that store and taken the puppy home with me. all i wanted to do was save it from the miserable life it is going to have, probably being raised as a fighting dog.

You should call the police on thouse people they shouldnt have a dog if there gonna treat it like that poor puppy!:(

So I went into petco yesterday, i had to buy a light fixture. We were going to leave and decided to look at some tanks and there on the floor was a hand basket, in it was some rocks two bags and some food!! The bags had fish in them!!! a good 4 tetras per bag! Its like someone wanted them and then decided they didn't and just put the whole basket down!!! and its not like they were there for a min or so looked like it had been there a while, there was condensation on the bag! There was no one around so my boyfriend put the basket on the work station! How sad! Thats crule!:(

About an hour after I got off work a few days ago, another guy that works at the store texted me a picture of a guy's water test results. I've done so many tests at work (we offer free water testing), I can pretty much eyeball the results without the little color charts. It had to be the worst case of old tank syndrome I've ever heard of. The ammonia was fairly high, nitrites as well, the nitrates and pH readings were colors I've never seen before from the tests. The pH looked like it had been crashed below 4. I can't imagine that tank has ever had ANY water changed out of it.

I also helped a guy yesterday who wanted one new fish for his 29 gallon. I asked him what he had in it (at this point, I can tell when I'm in a situation where I just don't want to know what they have, and I knew this was one of those). He listed off swordtails and various smaller barbs and a few tetras (already sounding a little overstocked, but not a bad combo at least), one of "them" (pointing to channel cats...), and an "incandescent shark" (had to make a conscious effort not to laugh out loud at that one, but I did later and I'm laughing about it again now). I tried not to look horrified, but I might have. Eventually someone else got him a platy or something. I tried to get him not to get anything, but he wouldn't have that
