Isn't that kinda the objective? Retell TWD but from the beginning? It's honestly not a spinoff as there's zero plans for crossover. It's more like the law and orders

I was saying to myself the other day how the show is not really a spinoff. The Law and Order shows are a good example.

it is a spin off and it doesn't have to cross over to be a spin off

we know the objective is to retell the story. what i'm saying is I don't get why

Yeah, they're just cashing in....or trying to. The odd thing is in a few years there will be watchers of FTWD that don't watch TWD lol. Maybe it'd be a good thing if this one doesn't catch fire? I do like that they don't have writing material to follow and it's suppose to be a more talented cast then TWD started with. We'll see

We debated this on TWD thread last year, it's not a spin off. You can only loosely associate the word. Even the writers are saying "it's not a spin off in the traditional sense". They NEED the name association to get people to watch it

did you debate with a bunch of baboons at the local zoo?

by definition, how is this not a spinoff??? lol

You need crossovers to be a spin off. They share a world, nothing else. Would you consider a police show and a fire department show in the same city a spin off?

why does it need to be crossovers to be a spin off?

isn't a spinoff just one thing that branches out from an original?

Traditionally they branch off with a character.....man we had a long discussion on this already. You claimed there's no successful spinoffs so Borg and I listed a few. Then we discussed what makes a spin off a spin off

If you consider law and order (focuses on court, law and order SVU (rape, sexual motives), law and order criminal intent (major crimes) etc spinoffs then yeah, this is the same type of spin off. Which really should be a category of its own.

Ps, law and order crosses over characters. So they're more legit spinoffs

was I part of that discussion? I don't remember.

but wiki and imdb says it's a spinoff and prequel. I agree

it's the same universe, same events. like the webisodes on amc.com. at this time of fear's pilot, rick grimes is either already in a coma or will very soon be in one.

I also saw an interview where they say a crossover isn't in the immediate plans but it's possible. but even if they never cross over, that doesn't define whether it's a spinoff or not

Yes, because if you do not call it a spin off, no one watches it. Marketing gimmick bruh.

And yes, you were the catalyst of the spinoff convo. I can't tell you if you read after you asked though. Basically by your definition all remakes are spin offs. Every batman of the past 20 years is a spin off. Same event, same world
