why would a python not be worth using in a bare-bottomed tank? having gravel is not a requirement for use of a python. having dirty water and fish/turtle poop all over the place is, if you want to get rid of it.

discolored = wrongly colored = (in the case of water) not clear. dictionary.com, ftw.

electric gravel cleaners, besides being a waste of money, usually suck water through a little mesh bag, which traps the solid waste but allows water to pass through. the turtle feces are just going to fall apart once they are in the bag with water pressure pushing on them, same as the way they break apart when you scoop them.

I don't think a python would be worth using in a bare-bottom tank.

Huh? That makes no sense.
Use the tube without the siphon attachment. It only takes a minute to suck the stuff off the bottom. If the top of your tank is above your sink you don't even have to have the faucet on.
That, or siphon into a bucket and top off the small amount of water you've removed.
Neither is difficult.

Barebottom doesn't eliminate the need to siphon, it only makes it easier and take less time. If you don't wanna do proper maintanence why did you keep the turtle in the first place?

I think we're all wondering that. Not only is he unable to maintain it, he's got it with fish.

watugachicken; i checked my dictionary but didn't have water examples so..thanks for clearing it up.
anyways what I meant is that in a gravel bottom tank I agree the python is a good purhase. my dad has one in the big tank. I was just saying that since it is bare-bottom, it's easier and quicker for me to just scoop it up with a net. haha instead of walking to the sink, un-rolling the long tubing connecting the valvue thing, etc..
yeah thanks for telling me about the electric one, i took that off the list.
