Feeder Fish Hangover

Yep, pellets are good, but watch the protein content. That's what causes a lot of pyramiding in captive turtles-overfeeding of high protein foods. I feed mine mostly koi pellets that are lower protein supplemented with greens, some live minnows, krill, earthworms, etc.
When I was younger, I was amazed by how my friend's RESs grew from the size of a nickel to over 6" in about a year, but then I saw how much he fed them. They were so overfed the water turned into a brown soup if not changed every 24 hours. They only lived to be about 3 years old due to the damaging effects of massive powerfeeding like that

Yes definitely stay away from live feeders. If you want to feed something "alive" feed your turtle crickets, aquatic insect larva, earthworms and grass shrimp. A good turtle pellet is very important too. I've always had great luck with Reptomin. Koi and cichlid pellets are good to throw in the mix as well.

So trully trulliest true:D

I really got some bad data. So crickets are ok. Just throw one or 2 in the water at a time?

How about romaine lettuce or spinach, that is what I have fed him the past.
