Yep, pellets are good, but watch the protein content. That's what causes a lot of pyramiding in captive turtles-overfeeding of high protein foods. I feed mine mostly koi pellets that are lower protein supplemented with greens, some live minnows, krill, earthworms, etc.
When I was younger, I was amazed by how my friend's RESs grew from the size of a nickel to over 6" in about a year, but then I saw how much he fed them. They were so overfed the water turned into a brown soup if not changed every 24 hours. They only lived to be about 3 years old due to the damaging effects of massive powerfeeding like that
