I threw 5 small feeder gold fish in my West. Painted Turtle's tank, thinking it would keep him occupued for a few weeks. After an hour of chasing he caught his 1st one and by the next morning, he had eaten them all.

Now he has a bit of a hangover. He's all schulmped over on his raft and isn't moving much.

Anyone else ever experience this?

He just ate a whole leaf of lettuce, so I think he's on the comeback trail.

So you think gold fish are junk? Isn't that their natural diet. I have reptomin sticks and he eats those. I better stick to that for a while.

probably got a bit carried away with the fish and was hunting them even though he wasnt hungry, OVER EATING, just like my dogs they will never stop eating. Same case with your turtle probably. Next time try and put in controlled proportions.

Dont use gold fish EVER, you are lucky that your turtle is alive:eek: And Carassius auratus is hardly a "natural diet" for a painted turtle:grinno: In the wild these guys feed mostly on invertebrades and plants, its on the rare ocassions when they find one dead or sick fish that they get some, but even then its a insignificant part of their diet. Insted insist on turtle pellets like mazuri or tetra reptomin, dark leafy vegetables like mustard greens and turnip greens(no letuce:grinno:), crickets, tawed shrimp, fish fillets and earthworms. Feeder fish is no good in their diet and you dont need to take the risk simply because painteds take so much diversity of food items. Matamata owners aint so lucky;)

Not to mention the things that the farms treat them with.
What was it, copper?

sounds like things you don't want it eating. Also take advantage of the fact that its a water creature so pellets are always a good choice
