Here are a couple 9 cent comets several years old.. one is mostly white. they were both a tan color initially before slowly turning gold and white

I've picked out a few pretty feeder fish in my lifetime. I got one that was all metallic white with a perfectly round dot on it's forhead like the koi. I forget what that kind is called but I still have the fish. I got him the year I graduated highschool which would be 1988 and he's about 15" and very smart for a goldfish. I named him "Spot".

Lol, you are referring to the Tancho Koi, I always keep a look out for them too :)

I put in about 10 feeders in my oscar tank last month. He ate all the orange goldfish within minutes but left 5 white goldfish alive. Its been a month and he didn't attacked the goldfish at all. I guess he wants them as his tank mates.

I have a 50 gallon set up with just 2 really orange common goldfish. Ilike the commmon as they are more stream lined and dont have the long flowing fins. They are very active and personable fish. Look really cool when they get some size on them also.

The black fins on feeder fish are almost always from ammonia burn so of course the melanin fades as the fin heals. it takes about 9 months for complete cell turn over in the fins. In my experience feeder fish aren't just comets, they are the culling from professional breeders and come in all sorts of varieties. Black on just the ends of the fins is very unusual to find as a natural coloration. I found a nice one that was white with a red dot on it's forhead. I think they call it a tancho coloration in Koi. He's about 12 inches long now.

As a Kid my grandma insisted on having a little pond in the backyard of her house. So me and my grandpa build one and went to Walmart and picked out about 8 or so feeder goldfish (this was before I knew anything about fish). 1 year later, we had 6 big tubby goldfish (lost 2 fish to a raccoon) that would happily eat pellets from your hands :D There was one we named Zorro because he had a black mask across his face. Believe it or not, thous funny goldfish started my aquarium hobby and taught me all about fish biology and care.

I bought 20 or so feeders for my Oscar a while back and they looked good so I threw them in my pond. A couple I fed to my Oscar but the rest I just couldn't do it. Now I have 15 or so 4-5" feeders swimming around happily. I don't feed them at all....they eat the algae, bugs, and whatever else in the pond. There's a few bright orange ones, a couple all white, one orange with black on his fins and head, one orange and white like koi, and one that is completely dark grey (wild color?)

Very cool fish
