I have been keeping arowanas for a long time, when if first started - i fed my silvers beef heart..... i sotopped this cos it polluted the water too much.

now i feed only prawns stuffed with pellets (massive delite)
prawns are expensive here...... at the cheapest prawns are 5 euros per kilo. but i still buy them:D cos my aros are my pride and joy

but here is the question

yu get two kinds here.

raw shelled prawns Or flash cooked frozen shelled prawns. basically, lthe same prawns but cooked and pink so its cheaper and easier to ship.

depends whats on sale, i will buy one or the other, but mostly the pink shrimp is cheaper and most cost effective.

i have been feeding my jardinii, rtg and 1.5 red pink shrimp.... grow fast, no problems.
any opinions?
hard facts? on pros an cons?

the aros love it, in fact they prefer it to cooked shrimp strangely enough thats why i did it to begin with.

just need feedback from everyone!:D

I have heard the argument that cooked shrimp loses nutritional value. I had 3 large aro with amazing colors andexcellent health. Since they were small thier main diet was cooked frozen shrimp.

I think the main reason most people don't like feeding cooked shrimp is just because of the nutrient loss after cooking.. I've fed both and my fish turned out just fine.. If they cost too much try fish fillets, my aro's used to eat the heck out of tilapia, and catfish fillets.. Just another option for ya.

yeah, but i dont think that is true
proteins are absorbed more readily with cooking.
hence why we cook food compared to cavemen
but in that case, the pellets i put in there should definatley provide the vits they need.
so people do feed cooked too. thats good to hear

wrong we cook the meat because it is easier for our stomachs to digest and kills off bacteria. Cooking meat is proven that it deteriorates protein and other nutrition.

I fed my cook or dip in boil water a bit so when my aro eat, it make less mess then raw. As long as you don't over cook and just cook the outside so the inside still uncook. Raw give out so much juice and that what make the water pollute fast.

i don't know if cooked creates a problem but the way that i look at it is these fish aren't getting any thing cooked in the wild besides that i get raw cheaper than cooked.

i have been feeding my oscars cooked frozen shrimp for about a month now and they are doing well... that and the placo goes NUTS over what they dont eat before it hits the bottom of the tank
