I fed my cook or dip in boil water a bit so when my aro eat, it make less mess then raw. As long as you don't over cook and just cook the outside so the inside still uncook. Raw give out so much juice and that what make the water pollute fast.
i agree

I feed my Arowanas raw shrimp with shell and tail. I keep the shrimp frozen in my freezer and when it's time to feed, I defrost a few and just throw them in. Shrimp is very high in protein and carotene. I say feed it to them raw. It's more natural.

yea you should remove tail,head

Normally cooked shrimp's proteins have been denatured, except you stuff them with pellets, so its the taste that matters, not the nutrient and protein content. I've also noticed that my fish prefer cooked over raw, except they're too small (therefore the pieces they eat are too small) to be able to stuff pellets into them, so I feed raw.

Also, you should pull any hard parts off the shrimp, or just stuff it in WITH the pellets. Hard parts, like the tail, can puncture the inside of an arowana, and probably most other fish. May people here have had their arowanas die that way, including me. After a sharp meal the arowana will stop eating for a little while, then the eyes will get cloudy, and then it'll seem to get better, but then it'll die with blood coming out of its anus. If you want the beta carotene in there, just stuff it IN the shrimp. From what I've heard, it's not really the sharp piece that's dangerous, it's simply the speed at which a lot of arowanas wolf food down. If it's IN the shrimp it'll be digested anyways, but it won't reach the stomach at high speeds directly.

what effect would feeding frozen shrimp have?
if they swallow frozen shrimp?
that would no doubt upset them yeah?

the tail is very soft, prawns here are .... very small lol even with the shell, not the massive aussie or asian ones

I feed my fish cooked shrimp once a week. I leave them frozen, then I'll thaw out about 10 pieces (Extra Large Size) in a big container of cold water. I usually thaw them in cold water in a fridge for about a day. I drain the water, cut the shrimp into pieces, and then stuff each piece with 2-4 hikari carnivore sticks. They love em'

Just try it for yourself, swallow a piece frozen and then see if you even feel like trying anymore whether frozen or not.;) I just let the frozen shrimp defrost in a cup of tank water. Then stuff with pellet/food sticks and feed.

IMO...as long as the aros get a varied diet or you stuff the pink prawns with pellets, they will get all the nutrition they need.
