Once they get a taste for zucchini/ other fresh veggies they go to town. Agreed on taking it out the next day.

I raised mine from a very small fry. He's a tough fish and fought off bigger fish when very tiny, to get to the food.. He's now a grown up 4-5 year old and fights bigger fish again without a problem. My clown loaches are known to try to get the food under his chin without much success...even when two attack him on both sides...
They eat everything, dry food of all types as long as it sinks, bloodworms, other frozen foods, whatever he can get his hungry face to. They are omnivores so veg are just a supplement. Mine has never been fond of zucchini ever but he likes cucumber, peas and melon. I do feed him mostly dry food though and he eats any food I feed the other fish, no exception. He goes around the sand and just mops up food that has fallen.
