Arowana have been known to jump up and snatch birds and devour them.Having said that I would only use it as a treat, and in small ammounts.
But this is in extremely isolated cases. For the most part, they eat bugs and fish/freshwater crustaceans. I would also only use it every once in a while. I personally never have used it because I don't want to have any health risks for my fish.

You guys are comparing Arowana vs. Cichla.. two different fish with two diff types of feeding habit..

Arowana can eat raw meat.. just not in large quantity all at once.... In the wild arowana will eat anything it can reach.. small rodents, birds, insects for that matter..

Cichla on the other hand.. hunts in the water and their diet is mainly fish... sometimes insects...

Bine shrimp is just a food introduced by man in order to keep fish in aquariums... there is no bine shrimp available in the amazon.. so a fish will just eat whatever it can find....

I'd say give it a try.. with Cichlia.... mix up the diet so your fish will learn to accept a wide variety of food rather than pellets... as they can get really expensive very quickly...

Chicken is incredibly messy and will foul your water fast than you can say "Fuuuuuuu..." . I've fed is on rare occassions but see no benefit over their shrimp/tilapia/silverside/pellet staple.

So, your saying that's there main diet right? Pbass can eat a lot right? Fish has more protein then chicken.

1 chicken thigh has 14 grams of protein.
4oz of shrimp has 23 grams of protein.

So less protein.....i got cha.

Messy...not so much. Cut them in to strips and they will kill the chicken.

Watch out for the hormones in the chicken, your fish will grow boobs!

:ROFL::ROFL:and a mustache like the arowana?LoL.

Didn't Jed (TheTRUST) feed his Cichla (and others) Hot dogs on and off? That tank was overstocked by many account and they all looked great. Comes down to moderation and good filtration. I don't see why feeding Chicken here and there would be a problem. Wouldn't solely feed it though.

Chicken is too high protein, in the wild fish exercise more then in your tank, they have to move distances to find food and outrun predators, cichla are opportunity hunters they eat snakes and rodents and anything that crosses their path.

don't u think when as humans when we consume chicken we must thoroughly cook it & wash our hands after handling raw chicken to avoid getting sick? bacteria is the main issue with chicken/meats.

I would think that principle would have some merit so if u were to use it raw for your fish are you not putting your fish at risk in contracting some bacteria that may not be beneficial?

I worked in restaurants & have seen how they handle it & also at supermkts, also at poultry farm & you do not want to imagine the conditions that chicken goes thru!

just my thought. steaming/boiling it on the med. rare side may be better.

But what about the colonies of bacteria that form on the tissue of dead fish that lay around untill it gets eaten?
