feeding jags

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i wanted to ask more questions but my my pregnant wife was siting in the car in the middle of the ghetto. I was going to use what was supposed to be a 55 gallon to pre condition my water for water changes but with it being ony 26 gallon i might have to use it for my convict breeding tank.

use the two bigger tanks for breeding, the two 10 gals for new fry for the first few weeks, and pick you up rubbermaid container to use as the large feeder tank untill you can find a good used 55 gal for cheap.

and as far as pre-conditioning goes, i've always just added water straight to the tank and added water conditioner straight to the tanks with no problems at all, just make sure you cut your filter off and water temp. going in is about the same as the tank water and you'll be fine.

:iagree: unless you are needing to do some kind of pH buffering, just add the prime (or whatever conditioner you use) and then add the water from the sink at same temp as your tank water (your hands can be surprisingly accurate with this lol)

it's ok, i've made a few long trips to get 100 gallon and 150 gallon tanks and they are always 55gals, now, i ask for them to give me measurments, even had one guy use his belt to measure a tank for me.

haha yeah thats sucks but yeah usually where i am most of the people selling stuff are pretty honest but there are some people who are just out there to lie and make as much money as possible after all, they can charge more for 30g than for 10g and someone who dont know better might just load it up with out looking closely (though it would be pretty hard to not realize a tank is only 10g) but yeah i went to just get a little 10g tank from someone and specifically asked before hand if it held water and was told yes, it was night when i picked it up so didnt look closely and turned out it was a reptile tank that still had sticker specifically saying DO NOT FILL WITH WATER so he blatantly lied to me, though luckily i was able to trade it for a 20g long but then had to redo silicon on that because it had leak (yeah craigslist has been NIGHTMARE) lol

around here people just don't know, they bought the aquarium at some yard sale or something, the aquarium hobby isn't very big at all, i normally know more about the fish at my lfs than they do, especially seeing how every jaguar and dovii they have is listed as "aztec cichlid", but it's ok, they are nice and give me fish for cheap that people drop off there.

ahh ok but thats cool though, thats the benefit for knowing more than the lfs workers is you can sometimes find nice little gems mixed in for cheap :) though its bad for the people who dont know better and try putting a dovii in 55g....

what's worse is the fact that they sell about 20 young red tailed catfish a week, sorry for getting off subject, back to the subject of feeding jags. the tanks you have can be fine to start breeding, it will be atleast a month at a minimum before you need a larger fry tank.
