I know that they are a food item, but i also heard the nails and bone are no-good for them......................also,what about their favorite food, crayfish??? Are those safe??

They eat mice in the wild.

Ive seen aro's take Monkeys ,but i just figured with it still alive it would try to bite the Bass(like a python's veunerability when feeding)and maim it.......guess not,L.Mouth's are toughies which i am learning more as a hobbyist than an angler!!!!!:():):):):):):):):):):):)

A. gigas is a predator that mainly eats other fish. If a bird or some other animal happens to be present, this large predator will also eat that animal. The pirarucu usually finds food near the top of the water because it is an obligate air breather that needs to surface every 10-20 min. However, the pirarucu is also capable of diving.

(Lowe-McConnell, 1987; Goulding, 1980)

Primary Diet:
carnivore (eats terrestrial vertebrates, piscivore

I think that Terrestrial vertebrates dosent limit them to just birds dude.......like i said aro's take monkeys....Monkey's are born relativley small so it's very possible!!

Plausible.....
I thought you said you'd seen it happen?

Yes,but it was small like a spider monkey, regardless,i dont think that volume of bone would be safe for a soft bellied animal, but obviously they do it,but nothing is better than seeing a school of piranha gutting a full grown cow, down to the marrow!!

Bass will eat mice. I have this old fishing guide from the 50s that shows a fishing technique where you put a live mouse on a board and give it a push. When the mouse gets to the place where you want to to be, you give it a tug and it falls in the water. The bass see this and gobble it up. Of course I would never use a live rodent for feeding anything other than a W/C snake but the rodent would have to be stunned. You could feed frozen pinkies if you wanted.

i saw somthing on National Geographic, and a LM had a baby gator in it's mouth..............one thing is for shure, they are oportunistic feeders!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
