Feeding live fish is illegal...

They miss then chase things down, probably depends a lot on the predator but when my uncle would drop in sunnys for his red fin pickerel he would never miss, literally, never

Depends on hunting style but in nature I bet you no predator gets 100% catch rate

Maybe because one is natural and one is perpetuated unnecessarily by us? Maybe because of the conditions comercial feeders are kept/bred in? Opinions vary and like bumholes we've all got one. Lets be honest, there is no NEED for a food chain in a home aquarium. I dont see a problem with feeding live fish, but it isn't necessary. And those that say ' this or that fish only eat live' there is no NEED to keep that fish in captivity. There are many fish that don't need live food. There are many fish that are banned for other less valid reasons. There are also fish not banned that people, with very few exceptions, have no business keeping.

Yes predators miss a lot more than they catch but 99 percent of wild animals die a violent death. Not many wild animals get old and go to sleep one night and pas away quietly in their sleep. As I had mentioned earlier about calling a pet a companion animal it is to say the animal rightist don't own their animal it is their companion. In other words they are hypocrites. You want to hear something even better a lot of these people act as though fish are not even in the same class as animals so they can be a vegetarian and eat fish. Sounds crazy to me.
I mean if you cut a fish it will bleed it has a heart a brain and a nervous system. Must mean if your not warm blooded you don't count.
Someone mentioned environmental enrichment I think a predator chasing down its prey is as good as it gets. Just look at how a cat loves to catch a mouse usually once the mouse is dead though the cat could care less. Environmental enrichment is one of the things animals rightist complain about at zoos But they would deny a predator a chance to catch its meal. Some want to deny big fish the chance to catch and eat little fish. They sure sound like hypocrites to me. What do the rest of you think?

I hate to cut people down but Ian what you stated is exactly what animal rightist want you to feel. Will you also agree with them when they say tomorrow you don't need to have an aquarium.

Making statements like the lack of need to farm animals for food. This all took place over 20 years ago people have lost touch with reality but our children are being brain washed in school at a very young age. I can sit here now and say an aquarium isn't a necessity in life, I don't have to wait to be told tomorrow. That doesn't mean I think they should be banned. Im old enough to have my own opinion on things and I've already stated that my opinion is that it's not the best law. I do, like I said, believe that some animals whether fish or mammal are unsuitable to be kept as pets. I also stand by the fact that there is no need to feed live if pellets etc. will be taken. I also still say if you live in an area where live is banned you Shouldn't keep fish that only eat live. I personally don't care if you do, but you shouldn't. Same as you shouldn't keep snakeheads (im talking blanket ban nit specifics) in US. I'm sure people do and silly as it is you shouldn't. Farming animals for food is very different yo keeping an animal as a pet, I don't even see how they can be compared. Oh and I agree we COULD all go vegetarian with probably very little ill effect. But humans are not herbivores, so why would we?

Keep in mind, you don't NEED to keep ANY fish at all.
Activists could push legislation to ban this entirely, because they believe nobody has any business keeping fish.
or dogs, or cats, or pets of any kind.
You can not satisfy peoples' desire to control others by caving in and adopting their reasoning. Doing that simply justifies their need for more and further limits & exclusions. Most of what drives their pursuits is not really about animals, but self-blinded hypocrisy.
