Night crawlers are larger than standard earthworms. If possible ask them if they have Red Wriggler's they are smaller in size and you may not have to cut it.

A quick rinse should be fine, and just cut them into pieces around 1/4 the length of the Delhezi
If you have 2 Polypterus you won't need to cut the worm. They will death roll the worm to get their share of the worm. All Polypterus do this instinctively .
I was born in San Diego and lived there until I was 31, I don’t know if it’s still there but there was a nice bait shop in lakeside that had all kinds of stuff for feeding aquarium fish. I wish I could remember the exact location but it’s been a while
