feeding mice to managuense?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
No one said, Jason, that they won't eat mice if they get the opportunity.

But let us face it. The chances of one individual cichlid catching more than one mouse a year are zilch, or nearly there.

And mammalian protein is not to their benefit, as mcdonalds is not to ours.

It is ot the mouse per se ( i also feed lots of mice and rats to species that thrive on them ). It is the harm to the jaguar if fed regularly and the toll on water, in a closed system.

I have kept many a snapper in big tanks, and i know what the effect of mice guts and fur in a tank is.

Im not agreeing that its good for them at all. and im not trying to argue with you but rrampage did state that they dont eat mice in the wild which is why i mentioned that if they had the chance they would. that is all.

Pointless argument all the way around. No point in feeding something that will negatively affect water quality for essentially no nutritionally benefit compared to a standard pellet.

Any predatory fish (or predator in general) would try to eat any number of things in the wild.

I only meant they don't normally eat them as part of their diet, not that they wouldn't eat one if they somehow came across one. That's all.

the only difference between feeding snakes mice and fish mice are that fish dont eat near as many in the wild and snakes mainly depend on them.

I mean, you've got the option to feed your fish a pellet which is actually healthier for it, whereas many snakes exclusively eat rodents. If I could train my snake to eat mouse-scented tofu (and it was good for it) I absolutely would, but I simply don't have the option. I minimize the sadism aspect of it by training them to accept frozen/thawed rodents, but there's simply no pellet equivalent.

And I'd be willing to bet anything the OP is not talking about using frozen/thawed mice. Just a hunch.
