This is how I feed my piranha. I asked from a piranha expert about this and now following that procedure.

Piranha less than 1 inch - feed twice a day
Piranha 1-6 inch - feed once a day
Piranha more than 6 inches - feed twice a week

How do you feed your piranha ? what do you think about the above feeding schedule ?

It sounds OK but in the case of a shoal of six inch red piranha's IMO would worry about cannibalism. Make sure you feed them well :)

i know someone who has 4 RBP 16 years old. She feeds them 1 time a week only and she said it's fine. They don't kill each other.
And she said RBP are not very aggressive when they grow old, when they are juveniles they are more aggressive towards each other. I think it is true because when I went to LFS, i saw many juvenile piranhas in the tank without eyes.

I still have 3-4 inches rbp about 5 months old. I fed them 2 times a day until yesterday. Now once a day.

my personal opinion on RBP is that cannibalism happens over territorial disputes more often then hunger. it would explain why older piranhas are less likely to get into disputes (longer time together, established territories).

personally, i fed twice a day until 6 inches since they were still growing rapidly and i wanted to make sure even the smallest one ate. After that i feed two or three times a week and varied the days and time so they didn't expect a meal at a certain time on a certain day so i could go out of town and not worry about missing a feeding

yes. RBP usually kill each other because of territorial issues. Hunger is not the main reason, especially when they are in aquariums.

Not true. Depends on age, when young they will easily eat each other if not fed frequently! Territorial disputes play a role ime when they get older and even then when a stray rbp invades or swims in another part of the tank he's usually chased off immediately and goes back to his normal perch!

The shoal will go after a weak and or injured shoal mate hungry or not.
