I favor tilapia! 3.99 a pound, cut up into small pieces, doesnt cloud the water! My big RTC eats 2"x2" pieces and like 3 of 4 of them.
I've been meaning to get some tilapia. It's freshwater fish as opposed to the whiting that I normally feed with....Justonemoretank which fillet do you feed with?

I read once that feeding fish non fish items like beef heart, chicken liver, etc was bad for them and could "clog up their system" - I don't feed my fish any of these things for that reason.

My RTC has grown about 16" in 5 months eating massivore, tilapia, and shrimp. It might be a bit more expensive, but he's healthy.

what is funny is that i cut the beefhearts into goldfish size chunks and my walleye strikes and eats them also so I dont know, feed the catfish nightcrawlers also but clouds the water from waste, so they have been on cichlid pellets and other foods mixed in for 2 years now.

I feed nightcrawlers to a lot of my fish with no clouding at all. I do though find that anything other than those, raw fish, and good quality pellet causes ammonia spikes. Their systems aren't set up to handle that much beef and poultry. I'm 100% not saying that a small portion every week or two could be good for them, but just saying that using it as a main portion of their diet could pose problems.

What are night crawlers?
Im from the uk so they are probably called something else here.
