Definitely not the only one but we are a select few on here for sure. I'm guessing by your SN you love the Caymans? I went swimming with the big rays in Grand Cayman for my send trip about 7 weeks ago. Love the big ocean rays just not as much as the littler fresh water type. But thats what originally hooked me in 2003 as well the big ocean rays. Won't be long and you will have a 300+ gallon tank or pond. Keep an eye on craigslist when you are in the market for a monster tank sometimes you can find screaming deals. With the 8 litters of retics I have had even with the same mother and father every single pup has looked different from highly patterned to nothing at all and from light tan, to gray, to silver in color or even olive green. Personally I still vote retic on your guys based on the pictures I have seen. Only time will tell with mature size as retics stay smaller in general. My female is one of the biggest I have heard of at 14 inches in disc.
Here is a picture of an orbignyi I saw a few years ago. Hard to see with the sand sticking to the ray, but you can make out the banding on the tail. For size reference, just on the left edge of the ray's disc is a standard, red clay brick. View attachment 889487
I just spent an hour reading this whole thread and I must reinforce the point that MFK is the BEST fishkeeping site on the web because of all of the great people we have on here.
To the OP....your rays look exponentially better in the most recent pics than when you first got them. Kudos to you for seeking out help to keep these beautiful rays alive. Any update on your water parameters? It's been a couple days and I am curious if the nitrites are lowering yet.
