On sunday the wife and I attended a fish auction and sold some of our juve rt's the fitrst group only brought about 5 bucks that hurt but a lot of the fish were'nt selling well but is was the way the auctioneer sold them that really got me. We had the bag labeled red texas and told what the parents were so people would know they were a first time cross but when he started to sell them and describe them he never even said they were red texas said they were some kind of texas bp cross a frankenstien fish lets start the bidding at pause 3 dollars. after the sale ended up talking to him and found out he belongs to a group opposed to all kinds of hybreds that could never occur in nature aka rt flowerhorns and the likes and told they were having a show in his city next weekend and that alot of participants would be disqualified with any such fish or any long finned fish. The guy even told us that lyre tail sword should not have been created because it was cruel because the male could not perform his natural act. What gets me here is that he put his ahead of offering the seller a fair shot at the best price for their fish. What do the rest of you think am I right or just mad because I was hoping to get more for these fish?

I think you are right to feel let down by the auctioner. You clearly labelled the red texas but he went ahead with his own agenda which may have resulted in a lower price for you. It is not like you were trying to hide the fact that a red texas is a hybrid but whether or not you labelled correctly is far from the point. He should not have let his own personal agenda get in the way of his duties.

Was the auction put on by any sort of society with a board?
If so, I would make a complaint to them stating how this member was extremely unprofessional in his duties even though you clearly labelled what the red texas was and he went forward with an un-agreed description with words which immediately put people in a negative mind set for a sale.

the same thing happens just about anywhere you go the purists want to keep the blood lines true which I agree with but theres alot of new hobbyists and experienced hobbyists who like to keep the hybrids I dont have a problem with that either if it brings people into the hobby Im all for it Im sorry you got a raw deal it shouldnt happen unfortunately thats the reality of this hobby everyone and every fish should be given a fair shot thats just my two cents Mike

I love the the hybrids and I really think its bad what he did..I would take cichlid2006' suggestion and see if anything could be done about it :headbang2

I don't know if you were allowed to put a minimum bid on whatyou were selling as no one else had done that I will ask my wife she read the rules of the auction. The auction was put on by asociety I'm not sure if the auctioneer was a member or just a volunteer my wife is amember and she is going to send them a letter.
I did learn something from this this was the first fish rights group person I had ever met I didn't know there was such a thing. When talking with him I don't think he was a purist because he didn't mind that there were Malawi hybrids there.
.

Personally speaking, i think you have every right to be upset, personally i'm not a big fan of flower horns and fish of the like, but that doesn't mean i would sabotage a persons chance of a fair auction...

I mean i can understand there will always be people who 100% disagree with hybrids, but to as an auctioneer, i don't think you should be allowed to put your own personal views into play like that, especially if it was clearly marked on the bag...

If on the other hand there was no indication of what the fish was i may understand, but otherwise i just don't think the people organizing the auction should allow the auctioneer to act that way, and if thats how they feel, the should state that clearly in the auction rules or notice for people to know so they can be prepared NOT to bring their hybrids to sell...

i'd be mad if i were in your shoes. That's just messed up. What gives him the right to put his personal feelings ahead of official business?

um yeah I'd be beyond mad. I wouldn't have taken it as calmly as you did...
