I'm hitting week #4 on being cigarette free. 8 years of smoking cigarettes has not made 1 positive impact in my life but many dozen negatives.

For those that are smokers and want to quit but can't cold turkey - don't use nicotine patches because all that does is replace nicotine for you - it's not defeating the purpose.

Look into Chantix and Zyban - Chantix is a bit pricey and not covered by insurance. Zyban is an anti-depressant also well known as Wellbutrin; it's covered by your insurance if your doctor can help you out and prescribe you Wellbutrin instead of Zyban which isn't covered by insurance.

Congrats dude. Kinda strange because I just quit smoking tobacco cigarettes a month ago after 8yrs of smoking too, started when I was 16. It actually hasn't bothered me much at all though (knock on wood), only time I get the itch is on a long drive.

I do find myself looking for things to do with my hands now.

good job

im in the same boat at you are. week 8 of not smoking after 5 years and i wake up everyday wanting a smoke. my sister took Wellbutrin to quit but also to treat depression and id rather not take anti depressants. good job on staying clean and remember your not going through it alone

Thank you all.

I started at 16 as well. I'm not craving it as much as I did the first 3 weeks. But after a full meal it bothers me a little - I formed a habit of smoking whenever I got done eating. Getting used to that is weird lol

congrats! i smoked for 12 years, tried cold turkey, chantix twice, and finally the patches. patches were the only thing that worked for me, so i have to say there is no tried and true method, but what works on an individual basis. chantix caused many behavior/mood issues with me.

Thank you, congrats to you as well. You are right I should edit my post, the patch does work for most - I just didn't see it working for me as it contained nicotine.

I'm still on Chantix - it is a roller coaster with the odd dreams it has given me and continues to give me still. I swear my dreams are like 1 hour long with Chantix. :) I don't mind it. :)

I smoked for over 30 yrs and today is one week cold turkey for me.

Congrats, stay strong. My old man quit cold turkey the day that I was born - he has been smoke free ever since.
