Don't think there is any problems catching them, the problems is in bring them out.

No wonder they are not sold in aquariums in South America, the traders/exporters sees no profits in south americans markets, cuz' these fishes can be caught readily in their neighbourhood water systems.

IBAMA...translating...Brazilian Institute of Wildlife Environment...or something like that...anyway...now i understand better why they arent sold here, it wouldnt be as lucrative as in places like singapore cuz really few aquarists know about Jaraqui...and YES, only the ribeirinhas (people who live on the river margins) are allowed to catch them...BAH this still sux, there are Jaraqui in Araguaia river also, and i fish there all the time (check thread MONSTA barbels), and ive seen a bunch of them kissing the surface water in a certain spot there...next time out there...well u know what im gonna do right? Amazon by plane...Araguaia by car (in my case)

Hey Adrius I can get 6 inch fei fengs all the time in Michigan. Trade you for some L-24 or L-25 adult plecos. Brazil put a ban on them to the States.

they are never in my area at all

i'm gonna revive a dead post..

anyways.. Fei Feng are awesome.. too bad i dont see them too often in LFS...

Hello,

It's my first post at MFK altough i've been reading topics for more than a year.
I'm Brazilian and i'm also looking for a Fei Feng here, it would be a perfect company
for my clown loaches.

What i've been told is as wild Fei Feng is used as food by people who live in cities near Amazon Basin, it can't be traded in the ornamental fish market. Another curios thing is that most of jumbo fish here like arapaimas, tsn, rtc are also under this prohibition but as they are raised in fish farms to food industry they can be easily found in black market or even on legal fish stores.
