Female bonsai laid some eggs

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Okay so when she got badly beaten up she recovered fast in a few days and I put the male back. They been very good with each other and put more hiding spots where the male can't get at her just in case. Well she put on her dress and her tube dropped again. Here's an update and this time with the male.

The male is beautiful really never seen so much pearl on such a small guy. Only thing is he has no kok but he's small about 3 inches. Here's some updated pics. You can her tube dropped one the pics. In a few days they should
Breed again hopefully they don't eat the eggs again

As soon as she lays the eggs or you going to separate her?
I will not separate the female even though she ate the eggs. Im old school I like letting the parents care for the fry until they're free swimming. She needs to fan the eggs so no fungus grows in there. I don't like using air stone method. If she eats them again I know eventually she will lay eggs. Its been 2 weeks and shes laying again so I know for a fact its an established pair and she will eventually not eat the eggs. Before it was a bare bottom tank and now I added "pool filter sand" and some more pots so they feel more comfortable.

If the male touches my female after she lays eggs I will just separate them but I have a feeling that won't happen. I tried to take a small portion of the eggs and divide them from the parents and the male beat the female. I shouldn't have done that he probably got mad she ate the eggs or not caring for them.

Her papilla is going to drop some more so I hope they are bonsai with the males colors even with no kok.

When i added the male again she instantly put her breeding dress on within minutes and her blood shot red eyes had black in them thats when I knew they're about to do the nasty soon.

Update so she laid eggs today! I added an actual flowerpot this time and she laid in there. She laid at least double she did last time.

He became aggressive with her again but this time she has the pot so she shoves him off.

I'll give it one more try if they don't eat the eggs I'll try the airstone method she should lay again in two weeks. I hope in 5 days Max I get some wigglers lol

Wish them luck!

What is the airstone method?
You take out the parents or you take out the pot put it in a tank of its own and put an airstone to mimic the mothers fanning. That way nothing will be eaten. This only can work after the male fertilized the eggs. Which is usually righ after she lays them.

I don't like doing that I never did and I don't like unnatural things. I'd rather have a natural approach. But if they eat them this time and then again I will have to do that approach.

I know once they breed they breed constantly like clockwork every two weeks or every month. I had Midas do this for a year and half every month. 1500-3000 fry! First few batches were small then it was tons and tons of fish.

Good to know. I have a male Flowerhorn and female con and the female laid eggs and ate them all. Now I'm waiting for her to lay eggs again. Its been 3 days and nothing. If she does I might consider the airstone method.

She can't produce eggs again in 3 days never heard a fish that can do it that fast. I've bred plenty of Flowerhorn Midas red devil and usually two weeks to a month.

Yeah they'll do that I usually give them three strikes usually on the third attempt they get wigglers. Make sure you take out fry if you want to keep them. They will eat and kill the old fry so the new batch can come. I had way too many fry for my Midas I just let them eat them get killed lol I kept maybe a few hundred and sold a ton of them. More than half died due to overcrowding in a tank. New generation would die from the bigger fry and etc
