BuffaloPolypteridaeBefore anyone whines about it I'm going to make sure they are labeled as hybrids Sent from my XT1080 using MonsterAquariaNetwork App[/QUOTE said:
important if u are a true hobbyist with genuine interests for cichlids and their offsprings!!

If you label as hybrids, then in the lfs its an unknown random mutt thats not a fh to others that never knew.

If u label exactly their pedigree and what they were made from, it will be more meaningful of a fish for the owner.. Because u are going from scratch and only 2-3 different breeds of cichlid

I meant that just didn't feel like reiterating what has already been said. Since I already told the LFS manager my plan he is more then likely going to mark down the lineage, since he knows I would just come in with a whiteboard pen and write it down anyway. What's more important to me is WILD CICHLIDS STAYING IN THE WILD. hence why I don't care about hybrids in the hobby, in my mind its better for the all important wild fish that get collected if hybrids are a common, desirable thing.

Like the others say, with this sort of lineage I'll have no problem getting rid of em. If I do, free food for my water snake.

So give up ;)

BTW I don't get what's wrong with mutts as long as they're healthy. Is a mutt dog always a bad dog? Hell no. Some of the best dogs I've owned have been mutts. Including my coyotexsome sort of shepherd. Had him when I was in elementary. He is still my favorite. Unfortunately he got away from us in the woods chasing a deer. And was shot when we found him.

Bet he felt like **** for doing it once he saw he had a collar and tag on. Unless he was a psychopath

Just saying Hitler also believed in keeping things "pure"

I'm also sick of all the BEST looking fish staying in Asia. I'd like to provide a high quality hybrid to the general american public. Or Canadian. I understand the desire to keep things pure, but with being pure also comes terrible inbreeding
Which causes health issues..which wouldn't have happened if they were bred responsibly. Yet sadly its more thrifty for the large breeders to inbreed. That way they don't need a new bloodline until said fish die. By that time the inbred fish are mature, so they inbreed some more.

Sorry for the double-rant but I can't handle being called out on how true I am to the hobby. If you are a True Hobbyist as you say you are, you wouldn't support wild collections of cichlids unless they are endangered by human progress. There are plenty of bloodlines already in the hobby, why do we need more?

So the sticks should come out of that dark place on your bottom.

Quoted it and edited o. The quote, crap

Also quite excited to hear if any counter reasons actually prove their point

Hey what if they all become really cool and ppl do like em. PPL of the world got many different preferences.

I have a feeling this is what's going to happen. The lineage is 3 of the more popular cichlids on the planet. May even make 2 lines and see if a convict can lay with the initial hybrids. One will be larger and more predatory looking, and the other will be a smaller more cute thing that people with smaller tanks can house without endangering the health of the fish.

The kind of hybrids I'm not down with are as you said, unlabeled mutts. People have no idea the growth/aggression potential unless they are an avid hobbyist. Endangering the health of the fish.

If I do manage the goal of festaexcarpixjag I really don't think it should be kept with anything other then themselves. We shall see, but the lineage is known for some pretty intense aggression. Hoping they won't be as crazy as all of them combined lol. I'd like these guys to have some fangs too. The jag line at least will. Hoping I can keep the top specimens in my main tank for future breeding.

Carjagtae has a nice SA ring to it for a common name, like manaconda is to festae jag hybrids.

To see what comes out lol

Festae is going to provide the vibrant colors
carpintis is going to provide pearling
Jag is going to provide a more predatory mouth/body and teeth

I'm basically trying to make an american flowerhorn-type deal without any of the genetics that make up Asian FH. Minus the focus on a huge nuchal hump. I'm more focusing on making this thing an insanely colored/pearled predatory looking fish. The jag genes should make it beefier too
