  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have had good luck keeping female festae with many things. Before I set u
A breeding tank, my 120 had a female festae, male JD, an Oscar, a saxatilis, and a hartwegi. All was well.

shes beautiful but arent females normally like a bright orange/red color or is that only when their breeding and when your female was about an inch did she have any blue spangles? im trying to sex mine at an inch which i know is nearly impossible

I have kept festae with just about everything in the past, when they are young it's usually easy, as they get older and territorial there can be problems.
But your choice of tankmates sounds good.
Remember although they are slow growers they can get large, I saw a 13" male for sale in a LFS a few months back.

Yes and no. In my experience my festae did grow faster once I put her in a 100 gallon tank but she still grows pretty slow compared to her tank mates. But I think it depends more on the individual fish, what you're feeding it, how often, and also water quality might play a major role as well.

sorry to keep asking all these questions but i was wondering what is the difference between f1 f2 and wc and what do those abbreviations mean i see these a lot when researching festae

No need to apologize for all the Q's...most members here are more than willing to share their knowledge and experiences. Now to the answer the F-scale refers to the generation of the fish. Wc (wild caught) is F0. The offspring of two WC fish is F1. Offspring of F1's is F2...so on and soforth. Basically the lower the F#, the closer to wild caught the fist is. I'm sure there is more to it, but there is my limited understanding.

I believe wc stands for "wild caught" and f1 and f2 let you know how close to wild they are. An F0 is a wild caught fish and an f1 is the offspring of two wild caught fish or two F0s.

Oh alright it makes sense now so im guessing the closer to wild caught the more money they are worth and thanks for the quick replies
